None. But the death penalty doesn't stop people murdering others. Maybe a little reading will educate you?

That certainly is a little reading.

Here's a little more:

From your data, the highest murder rates occur in states that apparently home the highest number of murderers, whatever the penalty is. Those same states have long had the death penalty but there is no direct evidence that reducing that penalty would reduce murder rates in that group but it is likely that the opposite is true.

The death penalty is an emotive subject. People would assume that anyone who is given the death penalty really did it. If you know the reason the death penalty was ended in the UK you will know that

Does anything stop people from murdering others?

From your link, the murder rate in Illinois, that has no death penalty, is about five times the murder rate in New Hampshire, which has the death penalty.

The site is anti-death penalty.

Young people murder now like its normal like shop lifting there is no deterent so they will carry on. like Venables and Thompson these murdered little jamie Bolger when he was 2 yrs old by luring him away from his mother in a shopping center. What these monsters did was to horrific to type, they were sentanced to life they were both 10 yr old. They were both released early after serving just 8 yrs given new identities and world wide protection from the press. At 18 they should have been sent to senior prison but we know what would happen if that happened. Meanwhile there Mother Denise Bolger has carried this througout her life knowing what these 2 monster did to her Son.
