Swimming In Phuket In August And Days Out

Featured Replies

Hi,

Coming to Phuket In August, staying at Patong beach.

Will we be able to swim in the sea or any bays at all?

Will boat trips to the islands and around be operating?

Any ideas for days out or places to see around Phuket?

August - the beaches on the west coast (patong, etc.) are full of dangerous rips and undertows, swim out too far , get caught in one and next stop is India. The sea will still be warm and safe for splashing about but I wouldn't go out much more than waist deep. About two weeks ago I saw two beach boys jump on a jetski and rush out to rescue a farang being washed away. When they got him to the beach , after getting his breath back, he roundly cursed them and stormed off. I would have thought a tip was in order.

Ferries to Phi Phi, etc, will still be operating, but it is a good idea to take the larger, enclosed boats. Do not take a sppedboat, even if it is cheaper and quicker. The seas can blow up very quickly, and you don't want to be caught in a storm.

Having said that, there will be plenty of days of good weather, and you can always enjoy yourself in Thailand.

Have a good holiday.
