Actually, I think you’ll find that most foreigners you meet nowadays who have been living in Thailand for 30 or 40 years also arrived in their 20s or 30s. Otherwise, many of them would be dead by now. Or to put it another way, there are probably very few people who came here in their 60s, have been in Thailand for decades, and are still alive today.

Yes, back in the 80s and 90s, most of the guys hanging around were middle aged, but you also met quite a few who were in their mid to late 20s and early 30s at the time, many of whom are still in Thailand today.

So I think it’s a bit of a mixed bag, and I don’t think you can generalize quite so easily.
