Does working from home make you depressed?

Working from home ‘makes you depressed’

33pc of the increase in mental distress since 2020 can be explained by remote working, new report says

Working from home makes you depressed, according to a new report from US economists.

Once again, basic math debunks most b.s. claims. 😜

Let 3/3 = total remote workers

- 1/3 (remote workers depressed)

= 3/3 -1/3

= 2/3 (remote workers not depressed)

Soooooo, most remote workers aren't depressed, only a minority need to RTO*

Personally, I felt more depressed when my remote job ended and the cash flow stopped. 😁

How about you?

Much better pay, hopefully. Working from or out of home means I'm self employed, and earn way more than any salaried job. $50-$150 USD / hr vs $22 working for corporate scum, and that was 25+ years

Hey, they have these things called search engines now.

You just type some words in and it tells you all kinds of things you didn't know before.

I HEAR BLUEGRASS MUSIC 🎵 man-520045.jpg

Well doggies your sister does look hot 🎻

You said, in capital letters that my simple question was off topic. What's is the reference to Bluegrass Music to do with working from home? Please!

The report you quoted said that 33% oof the INCREASE in mental distress ....etc, not 33% of those who do work from home.

Most office environments are toxic.

Or at least have a few toxic backstabbing or difficult people to work with.

Depends where you work.

In some cases, working from home might be better.

You can always get a pet and find ways to socialize outside work hours.

Anyway, work is for work. It's not for socializing.

And there is arguably too much socializing going on in some workplaces.

Like there were 2 girls next to me talking about shopping and other crap. It was distraction. I didn't want to hear their conversations.

What is the difference between working from home, and, as I did for many years running my own hotel, where I lived at work?

My daughter loved scamdemic, as worked out of home instead of office most of the time. She can do that anyway, with her job, and good portion of work is done at home. Sadly, in TH, her past employers took advantage of that.

"OK, you're done for the day, head on home. OH, while there, look over and handle these accounts"

"Yea, I can do that" ...

.... while searching for next job 😂

I have worked from home and hated every minute of it.

I suppose it depends on the location of said hotel and how deep your pockets are...

I saw an interview with a London Cab driver who ran a bar in Pattaya --profitably because she didn't drink or have sex. Perfect!

Took her lump and bought a resort on an island.

Quickly found out the people who were willing to pay a higher daily rate were selfish rich kids who trashed the rooms with parties.

Had to lower the rates to attract long term Expats.

Even then they took off during the low (rainy) season.

Then she had to pay her staff to do nothing for months in order they wouldn't leave. Said she operated at a loss. 😂

So, if losing money in your hotel doesn't make you depressed, sure pal.

That is a service job, not a remote job.

And obviously it's not a big money maker or you wouldn't talk about it in the past.

No one abandons a profitable business.

You seem to have grabbed the wrong end of the stick. My hotel was in an affluent part of Cheshire from which I made a lot of money, which went nicely into my deep pockets, and we sold it after 17 years, at a good profit. OK, I did get a bit depressed having to be up at 6am to cook up to 24 breakfasts, but had plenty of time to follow my musical career as well.

So do you class those who were forced/asked to work from home during the Covid debacle to be self employed?

No, of course not. Little reading comprehension ...

... "Working from or out of home means ... I'm ... self employed" ...

I personally never had a salaried job that could be done over the internet/computer or phone. Being at work site, was mandatory. Self employed aren't forced to do anything, and a beautiful thing it is.

Unless you are contracted work, and need to be on site.

One's you refer to, obviously have employers. Just happen to be in jobs that don't actually require being at the office. Not like they were in manufacturing or hands on customer service.

I didn't grab the wrong end of anything.

No one abandons a profitable business.

Most people want to sell businesses that are losing money and they cook the books and hope to find a more gullible sucker willing to work around the clock for a few pence.

I understand how profitable business works.

You do not understand how MY profitable business worked, or why my wife and I sold it, so shut up please.

Farmers work at home, and so do people with workshops at home. It takes discipline to work for yourself when nobody knocks on your door and pushes you to get things done. A home gym also takes more dedication than a commercial gym where you meet people and get pulled along by the environment. At home, nobody is watching, nobody is waiting, and nobody pushes you.

Being a bit of a perfectionist also matters when you serve people and want everything clean and neat. Without motivation, it is hard to meet those standards. For those of us who are retired, the work is basically to maintain the body, protect the mind, and stay active. Many miss that one.

Just an observation, no insult implied. Develop a little thicker skin, it is a forum, and some of us are a bit more direct. I try to read a bit slower, so not to make the same mistake, and actually works .... sometimes 🙄

Love working from home.

Listen to albums on Spotify while working, particularly enjoyed listening to 70s prog albums I had never listened to before as I didn't like prog back then.

The downside of working from home is there's little to disturb you so you tend to work longer without a break.

You, with your roots, may be interested to know that the famous hotel and nightclub in my village, sure you know it, where I stay when visiting home, is closed to the public as it's housing immigrants. Presumably they can earm more from the govt housing immigrants than the general public staying and/or visiting. Umm!

The hotel I had in Macclesfield is now full of the same.

Duplicate sorry

I retired 20 years ago, but when I was working, I had the option to work at home most of each week. I tried that, but there were too many distractions, and it was easy to put off any actual work until "later." I finally concluded it was simpler just to drive over to work, as it was only 10-15 minutes away and I could actually get some work done there. I had my own office and no real supervision, so why not? Plus, there was always someone around who was up for a long lunch.

As for work-at-home causing depression? That's probably more of an individual thing for people who are already predisposed.

I love working from home instead of dragging myself out early! Eat your own food, wife takes care of you. She also works from home. I'd be way more depressed having a boss. (Don't tell the wife!)

33% increase, but in total 40 percent of remote workers are depressed.

The highest percentage must be here on AN:

Many grumpy, lonely, poor, dissapointed left-overs 😂

Don't think many forum members work.
