Why would I "want blood" though?

Why would I want to go "on a highway to hell?"

The lyrics of some of these bands are crazy.

And a lot of the music represents "rebelliousness", but how do kids who listen to this music rebel besides using drugs? Is that rebellion?

It's excusable for teens maybe , but grown middle-aged men listening to crazy lyrics is silly. Grow up and grow out of it. And not

Instead of "a highway to hell", why don't you go "Into the Mystic?"

Rebellion was what rock music's about. Telling the world how you feel, and what to do. A lot though Ozzy and Black Sabbath were devil worshipers but it was just telling stories about all things. Death, life, sex, drugs, love, pain, depression, addictions, suicide, food, dreams, and others. Van Morrison has some great songs. He's another lyricist like one of my favorites. Gordon Lightfoot. I still listen to older classic rock for the memories, and there's still some great music still coming out, especially in the Southern and Progressive rock genre.

Springsteen had good songs in the beginning (The River, Badlands…), but he has long become upper class and privileged, and therefore just a phony act.

He made a lot of good songs about life in the NYC metro area, and lasted quite awhile, but eventually all artists run out of good ideas but still want to perform. if they don't have additional writers sometimes they get a tad bland.

Deep Purple

Led Zeppelin

AC/DC

Cream

moody blues i recall seeing em in the early days and their repotoir was limited to copies of us songs

ACDC literally has a song called "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution".

But that's exactly what their music is.

Yeah headache music. Just yelling.

Neil Young (with Crazy Horse)

David Bowie

Gary Moore

Stone Temple Pilots

Fanny (underrated)

Ever listen to Aladdin Sane, Ziggy Stardust and Diamond Dogs? If you like glam rock with a great guitarist, Mick Ronson. Early Bowie wasn't too great, as well as the later electronic and jazz rock oriented music.

Stone Temple Pilots were part of the grunge scene with Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Pearl jam, among others, which were a decent detour from classic rock until it came back around.

Neil Young continued in the same style as Crosby Stills and Young with more rock than folk rock. Good lyrics.

Gary Moore of course one of the best blues rock guitarists.

I would say these are more underrated than overrated.

I hardly ever listen to them anymore.

However, Freddy Mercury had one of the most unique and talented voices ever.

He was practically an opera singer with incredible vocal range and drama in his singing.

Preferred Aero Smith.

Come on now - ACDC is poetic as they come:

I've got big balls
I've got big balls
They're such big balls
And they're dirty big balls
And he's got big balls
And she's got big balls
(But we've got the biggest balls of them all)

Brings a tear to my eye. I chant it each sunrise and sunset.

First album was decent but came into their own and better musicians with their second album, and from then on through Octave. After were still good but not like earlier.

Deep Purple

Cream

Deep Purple and Zeppelin overrated? Cream were innovators, bringing Clapton into the scene and on to Derek and the Dominoes, one of the better blues rock albums at that time. Then Clapton's solo career. Purple made some of the best rock music ever, especially with Steve Morse on guitar and now with McBride are still making good music. Their Coverdale -Hughes albums were some of the best back then and then Gillan took over and they stayed at the top of British classic rock.

Pretty close in sound, with Mustaine following the sound.

Pretty close on Kill 'em All, but Metallica's sound changed from Ride the Lightning, under Cliff Burton's influence.

Like Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and Metallica the best. More into progressive metal now but like thrash also, especially when i was younger.

It shouldn't be taken that literally. It is great, uplifting music. Bon Scott's lyrics were very tongue-in-cheek and off-beat.

I am with you regarding the low frequencies and negative vibes some music gives off, but it isn't the case here. Dismissing AC/DC because of the world "blood" or "hell" would be like telling one's kid not to play Super Mario because it technically involves killing enemies.

Those were their good years. And Justice for All is good too, though badly produced (best to watch the live renditions, such as in 1988, there are good videos on YT).

Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for All… the golden treble.

Agree brilliant albums but they lost my respect for what they did to Napster..after that (years later) I went on the bay of pirates and downloaded their entire discography even though I do have original CD's of Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets albums ,if my memory serves bought from the HMV ? shop in central London that had the CD pressing plant in store ????

Yeah, I remember that. Lars Ulrich is a total jerk… and an overrated drummer. IMO Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain and Judas Priest's Scott Travis are far superior.

That's pretty much what they are now, yeah: 😄

Gillan was making hits with Deep Purple while Coverdale was still at school and Ian Gillan wasn’t even Purples first vocalist. They had their first hit ( Hush ) around 68/69.

Coverdale and Hughes didn’t appear until 73/74 and Hughes funk/soul direction is what killed that version ( MKIII ) of Purple.

Coverdale had a great bluesy voice and did better in Whitesnake during the “ big hair “ years.

Hughes is an exceptional bassist and singer songwriter but his style didn’t mix with Coverdale or Purple.

While Gillan and Deep Purple are still churning out albums ( 25 studio albums i think ) his voice has gone and there is nothing particularly special in their new stuff. They still draw the crowds though but i guess most are there for their halcyon years of 70 to 73 .

Are you atheist?

How come when religious people talk about hell and satan, atheists think it's silly fairy tales.

But when rock stars sing about hell, it's cool?

Not sure why I would pay to go watch someone shouting what are essentially THREATS at me. This song sounds like a death threat. Why is Satan gonna get me? What did I do?

It's mental illness.

You're only young but you're gonna die.

Take my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell

Satan get you, Satan get you

Rod Evans was first then Gillan then Coverdale-Highes, then Gillan again. Meant to say Gillan took over again. Gillan's pretty old now, but still sounds okay, Come Taste the Band, Stormbringer and Burn, three of my favorites by them, with Coverdale and Hughes. Having two vocalists gave them a rock and funky flavor. With Gillan, Perfect Strangers, Purpendicular, Bananas, Who Do We Think We Are and Machine Head favorites, although I like all of them. I like Hughes with Bonamassa, Hughes-Thrall, Hughes-Turner, as a hired gun with others and solo also

I'm not an atheist, but I make a difference between tongue-in-cheek lyrics and bona fide satanic vibrations and imagery, as can be seen in material by the likes of Lady Gaga.

Take some time and listen to songs from Powerage, Back in Black, High Voltage, TNT, and others. Rebellion, rock and roll and fun. many bands talk about death but it's a part of life. Fantasy, dreams and hopes, not to be taken seriously.
