Overrated?

The Who

Pink Floyd(1 good album, 1 great album)

Underrated?

UFO

Thin Lizzy

Plenty of underrated bands, in fact it would be worthy of a mirror thread, Most underrated bands of all time.

Journey

Huey Lewis and the News

How about a whole, overrated genre?

Rap/Hip Hop

No appreciation at all.

You may not appreciate it but it's one of the longest lasting and most successful genres of modern history. While I don't have much appreciation for contemporary hip hop, old school hip hop, trip hop, underground and progressive hip hop can be incredible.

One example:

Yeah, it's going to be around for a long time because it's so damned simple it doesn't even require a person who plays a musical instrument. You can have it.

All that "thug life" bs is doing a good job of keeping the prisons full.

True, the same as pop stars acting like sluts on stage, with millions of young girls thinking it's okay.

I'd see these teenage girls in the US looking like a pregnancy waiting to happen, and they are out with their mothers, I want to tell them to keep the kid on a leash if she doesn't want pups.

What I think is the worst is older female crooners who wear things that show a little more than they should. First noticed it when Shirley Bassey was on the telly (singing Goldfinger, of course), 60+, wearing a full gown that revealed nearly everything underneath, it was embarrassing to see. Ella would know better.

Gaga became a singer because she couldn't pick up straight men otherwise.

By saying that you have admitted that you know very little about the Hip Hop genre. The thug life aspect is just one part of it, it represents a minority of contemporary Hip Hop and in no way shape or form does it represent Progressive or Underground Hip Hop, nor trip hop, which tends to have a far more positive message. Hip hop is a vast genre and it is here to stay.

Overrated - Queen for sure. Pink Floyd, Van Halen, KISS, Allman Brothers, Meatloaf

Best/iconic though (some) may not be chart toppers:

RUSH

Nazareth

Bad Company

Zeppelin

Black Sabbath

Deep Purple

Slade

AC/DC

Aerosmith

Jimi Hendrix

Then I would like to see what kind of music nerd you are. Give us your top 5 or 10 ?

I just did that.

Sorry, my bad.

I find it strange that not more people mention Marillion.

I was just provoked by those who call Pink Floyd overrated. I listened to all your favourite bands back in the day, but today Pink Floyd is still the one I return to. From that whole list, only Pink Floyd and Rush still feel timeless to me.

Good memories from first time listening

Most rock was aimed at the rebellous youth. Hey Teacher leave those kids alone!

Do your homework Rocky before you claim to know what a group is all about, and how they evolved during their time.

Yeah, I don't know what to make of RUSH's comeback with the Dutch female drummer though. My son is going to one of the revival concerts this summer. It seems a bit distasteful somehow. Like let's get more cash while the boomers are still around and still want to see us play. First it was going to be like a tribute encore for Neil Peart - just 20 odd gigs. Then before you knew it there was a full concert tour across the US and Canada running over many months.

It is just music. Nothing special.

Im looking back at the time when I listened to them and the albums I had memories from. Not today, that time is gone.

Rolling Stones, ACDC, Kiss, and more I saw in the 90ies, and thought to myself they should had already stopped touring, but here they are still some of them

Agree. But calling Queen "cheesy" and ACDC "crap" was just too much for my taste.

Right.

Queen, AC/DC, and Bon Jovi have all had multiple great songs.

The Village People aren't overrated, they are a novelty act.

No one rates them as anything else but a novelty act.

And once again personal opinion but I consider "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" to be Queen's masterpiece and a perfect rock song.

Haha, I knew this was coming.

Always someone to express this tin-eared opinion,

The Beatles songs are on permanent rotation on my ear worm apparatus.
