As more information comes out---in addition to the WaPo article about Iran's missiles and its ability to endure a blockade---it seems the US is rather hamstrung. It's Gulf bases were hit precisely (probably with Russian intel) so that the runways are currently unusable. Saudi and Kuwait have rescinded US overflight approval, so forget B2 bombers flying from the US, unless they want to use a wildly circuitous route. Ship-borne fighter/bomber aircraft cannot reach distant targets in Iran, due to the overflight restrictions. Cruise missiles on location are depleted, others must be moved from places like South Korea, Japan and Europe, and total existing inventories are low.

I would guess the "ceasefire" was driven in part by the paucity of US missiles.

Iran probably has pretty good intel from Russia about the extent of the damage to US bases in the Gulf, as well as US inventories of Cruise and Tomahawk missiles. Iran probably also knows the range any carrier-based aircraft can affect.

With Gulf nations now understanding that the US security umbrella has many holes, plus Patriot and THAAD systems are depleted---all while Iran still has 70% of its missile capability---the US has likely lost these rather new alliances. Gulf nations might be demanding, via back channels, that the US make concessions so that the threat to GCC States is lessened.

Trump is going to have to re-define "victory" and then claim the US has achieved it, whatever he decides it will be. It is highly unlikely to be even as good as what Obama achieved with the JCPOA back in 2015. So all the death and destruction and higher prices and lost trust and respect is what Trump will have paid to not even get back to status quo ante 2015.

Iran is looking for a showdown with Israel which is now seen as the villain in this war together with USA. It depends on the impeachment language. If the impeachment is centered on the 25th Amendment, he can be removed. This is the Jamie Raskin's plan. Under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment, Trump can be removed without his consent when proven that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Trump can fight back with backing of GOP senate and House speaker but he doesn't get the presidency back just be saying so as the authority rest with a panel of high-level officials. They will decide if the President is fit for office or bebate this in Congress. A second insurrection will be hard for his loyalists in Congress to accept and he may not get his Maga supporters to rally for his cause.

The thing that a very tiny mind like Trump doesn't get is that Iran will not negotiate with the US at this point. Many reports are coming out that Witkoff is begging the Iranian foreign minister for meetings and his calls are not being returned. 

The US has backed themselves into a corner and the economic devastation has been way beyond what they anticipated, and the price they're going to pay for this in the midterms is going to be brutal. Unchecked inflation, rising unemployment, the closing of hundreds of thousands of small businesses, no return of manufacturing to the US, a shortage of labor due to extreme and short sighted immigration policy, and the abandonment of any hope that Trump would improve the quality of life for Americans, but instead we get sabotage of those hopes for the entire planet.
