The incident happened at around 5am in Soi Na Nai and attracted widespread attention after video footage of the confrontation was shared on Thai social media. The footage showed the driver arguing with the foreign man before the altercation turned violent, with the man allegedly punching the driver in the face and causing him to fall backwards.

The tuk tuk driver told Thai media that the dispute began after the foreign man and two foreign women allegedly refused to pay a 300 baht fare. According to the driver, the argument escalated when he attempted to collect the money, leading to the assault captured on video.

The driver said he suffered an injury to his mouth that required 10 stitches. He also told reporters he felt frustrated by the incident, saying he had simply been trying to earn a living when the dispute occurred.

Phuket Times later identified the suspect as a British national, who operates a cannabis shop near the scene. The outlet also reported claims that he had previous disputes with local residents and had allegedly failed to pay wages owed to Thai workers. Police have not confirmed those allegations.

Police later arrested the suspect and transferred him to Patong Police Station for further legal action. According to the Phuket Thailand News Network Facebook page, immigration officers revoked his permission to remain in Thailand in addition to charging him with physical assault.

Under Section 295 of Thailand’s Criminal Law, the alleged offence carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both. The investigation is continuing, with the criminal case now proceeding through the legal process. Authorities have not released further details about any additional charges or court proceedings.

He runs a cannabis shop but still couldn’t chill over a 300-baht fare.

Good. Deport him and ban him from returning.

The Brit got his right whack but there's many tuk tuk drivers and motor bike taxi riders that need a decent slap too

But a prison sentence first please for this entitled prick.

dont deport him, let him do the full 2 years in jail, even 1 year will be good enough to teach this POS a lesson.

Yeah, even if you get ripped off, it should be an insignificant amount for a westerner.

300 Baht is pocket change.

Just swallow your pride and let yourself get ripped off and stick to Bolt next time.

Not worth getting deported over 300 Baht.

People fiercely defending their pride and ego.

We've all been ripped off at some point. There's no way around it.

He may have felt that he was being ripped off, 300 baht is not much.

Maybe he should have agreed a price first.

72 lashes for this incorrigible git.

Then, first plane home.

Ban from the Kingdom.

Some folks just do not belong in this country....they have <deleted>e for brains.

He is a moron....always negotiate your price before getting in....hell, that is not new concept. I am glad he is getting deported. He is just not that smart.

And I hope the two tasty treats he was with send him pictures of them partying in Phuket, while he is sitting in prison with no A/C, some real tough Thai guys and other fun activities in prison.

Why so many aggressive Brits in Thailand nowadays?

Anyone being mean to a Thai has a problem now. This is the fallout of certain recent events. Not justifying violence at all.

Surely running a cannabis shop is reserved for Thais only? I'd be very surprised if it isn't.

If he thought he was getting ripped off then call the tourist police... they need a good laugh too.

So now this idiot will lose everything he's come to love about Thailand, dumb as...

Same guy? Seems to have a short fuse.

A doper comes here and invests in a business and loses it all due to mental health issues and lack of self composure, intelligence of a bucket of rocks.

would love to hear the brits side of the story, on here of course as soon as its a foreigner , the foreigners on here are always eager to turn on them and attack them,,

yet we all know how much of these tuk tuk drivers try to scam,, lie and themselves get violent .

This is half a story ..

could be true,,, could not,,

Another fine advert of British intelligence!

So, not an impartial legal view then...? 🤔

The guy was an idiot. But negotiating the price beforehand isn't 100%. I've had the taxis and tuk-tuks demand more upon arrival, claiming the traffic was bad or it was further than they thought.

I'm curious how many meters he went for that 300 baht. In tourist areas of Bangkok, that's the flag drop to go 100 meters in a tuk-tuk. It is a ripoff. But that's the way it works. Not worth getting my panties in a wad (or deported) over $9.

What difference does it make, foreigners of all nationalities come to commit stupidity everyday.

A doper comes here and invests in a business and loses it all due to mental health issues and lack of self composure, intelligence of a bucket of rocks.

In fairness, a lot of them are losing their businesses (or worried that they will) because of the crackdown on nominees. That's probably pretty stressful.

I've been hearing about some fire sale prices on villas and businesses, but that's just the coconut telegraph. It'll be interesting to see if the crackdown lasts this time. It seems that they announce one every year or so.

I hope the Police were able to translate the words in the video” I’ll smash yer head in” to add to the severity & lengthen his jail time

Denigrating Thais when you are a tourist is having a blowback. Enough is enough and viral videos are not helping at all. Be respectful and adhere to the cultural differences when you are a guest ,long term or not, are sensibilities for a long free living.

A dispute over a few pence in UK money. Utterly ridiculous.

Zero sympathy for Phuket tuktuk drivers from me. It's 200 baht just to get into the tuktuk in Phuket. Then the price goes up from there. Land transport in Phuket is a blight on Thailand's tourism industry.

As a former MI6 operative, I resemble that remark.

He must be overjoyed at last he will be able to return to good ole England where he can get a proper job unless he claims he has depression resulting from that nasty Tuk Tuk driver who wanted to charge him the same price as a pint of beer in an English pub.

Then he could claim PIP so he wouldn't have to work and could save up to go to Cambodia next time.
