It's not a need but a want. But you can make a follow up shot with a semi faster than any others, which could mean the difference in a deer getting away or being dropped. A good first shot is the most important but things happen in hunting where even the best shots can miss the mark. More so with a deer that's trotting. Rifles are things people buy like cars, boats and art. Different types for different tastes. I've never had one as I prefer a bolt action or pump, but I would own one.

In Australia, to own a handgun as a private individual means compulsory membership of a pistol club, 6 months probation, regular practice requirements, and stringent qualifying checks. Do you really think the gang banger are buying they firearms from FFL dealers. Restricting law abiding folks, only makes them an easier target. From tyranny & gang bangers, or just you normal burglar or rapist.

And if I was a hunter, and accidently crossed path with a Kodiak, Polar or Grizzly bear, or any bear or mountain lion/cougar/puma (name location dependent), meow, hell yea, I want the most powerful semi auto available, with 15 rd mag, incase there is more than 1. Or even a pissed of wild boar. And if cubs or wee ones are in the area, yea, you can't run fast enough.

Myself & Fred have both stated the system needs to plug a few loopholes, and better regulation involving training & security of firearms.

I like the recent conviction and 15 yr sentence to the father that gave his unstable son a firearm 👍 Finally, and they need to dish out a lot more of those.

I suggest you check out the prison terms people get in Australia for being in possession of an unlicensed or unregistered firearm. The authorities come down a lot harder.

This one was shot with a Lee-Enfield 0.303. still good enough for hunters in Commonwealth countries. A weapon invented over 100 years ago

i can remember doing a quad 50 in the now ended knob creek shot 40 years ago. 4 250 round belts at $250 each. thank god i have trigger control.

my favourite belt fed was a vickers or squirt guns, like mp5s or sterlings.

So you know the USA does not have a national firearms registry. How can you hope to control ownership when you don;t even know how many you have?

I understand it, I just don't care. Mass shooting 'deaths' by legal sane gun owners is rare. Unfortunately the price to pay for the freedom & liberties of the other 350M people.

Closing all the loopholes is work in progress. And the USA is a Constitutional Republic, and should explain why there aren't many 'national' things.

No national firearms registry is part of the gun ownership freedom. So the govt doesn't know who has firearms, so they can't be confiscated.

Try to understand why the 2nd Amendment exist. Things become a little clearer then.

Yes, so the other 350M can walk the street free without fear of threat by those already in prison. IMHO, you can't build enough prisons and fill them up with the scum, fast enough.

Prisoners had a Sixth and Fourteenth Amendment right to a jury trial at the federal and state levels, unlike Section 80 of the Australian Constitution.
