Do you believe in the Scientific Method? And, why?

I am not "dismissing" this idea or the possibility.

I am only saying that the simplest explanation is usually the best explanation, unless there is any evidence against the simpler explanation.

Why consider the more complicated potential possibilities first?

There is no point in that, even though there are so very many possibilities.

And, of course, we know that there is life far down in the lithosphere of Earth, due to deep drilling samples we have seen.

These samples of bacteria are embedded in rock formations, quite deep.

It is quite interesting that microorganisms can be found in the lithosphere up to 5 kilometers below the surface.

So, is it possible that a large chunk of rock could be blasted away from Earth by an asteroid strike?

Yes, possible.

However, it might be more interesting to investigate how life originates from existing conditions on Earth, billions of years ago.

EVEN IF we were to agree that life on Earth came from some other star system, many light-years away, carried on interstellar dust or inside rock blown out from some faraway star system, then this does not really explain the chemical processes of the origin of life.

By the way: Just how long would it require for a chunk of rock to travel 50 light-years, anyway?

If the rock left at over escape velocity, from Earth, at maybe 20 km/second, then we are looking at about a million years.

But, how many planets with life exist within a 50-light-year radius?

Anyway, I think we must re-evaluate the statistical probability for life, other than life on Earth, existing elsewhere in our own galaxy.

For these reasons: It is always best, in science, to go with the simplest conditions that satisfy some observation. In this case, the observation that life evolved here on Earth.

One cannot entirely dismiss ANYTHING, of course.

I guess only our lack of imagination limits the questions we ask. We already know that microorganisms can survive extraordinary periods frozen in Siberian permafrost. Nematodes have been revived after around 46,000 years and were still able to reproduce. If there is no curiosity, science does not go anywhere either. It should be allowed to try and fail, try again, change our minds as we go, and follow new evidence even when we do not have complete proof yet. To simply stop and think, “not possible,” is a dead end.

So, they have identified just one more positive feedback loop.

Keep in mind that all life on Earth has the same origin.

We can see this through observing DNA and the obvious commonalities shared by ALL life on Earth.

Yearly orbit. Not random. Ocean waves look random but surfers may know better. Animal behaviour is not random.

Yes, ocean waves are not random, but they do not follow a strict cause-and-effect pattern. Some waves are made up of water that has fish, plants, and/or debris in them, and are different than other waves. In fact, I'd say ALL waves are made up of different water content. This is why I say wave patterns are chaotic. They don't follow any strict pattern. They are all different.

Science, IMO, is a religion based on the belief in logic, reason, cause-and-effect, and the passage of time - all of which are delusional products of the human intellect. So, to say it more plainly...

Science is a religion that is based on the worship of the human intellect.

Time can be proven. A human ages. A plant dies.

Your belief that a human ages and a plant dies are beliefs you have NOW. The human, when he was younger, and the plant, when it was alive, are memories you have NOW. Your projection of the human's burial and the plant's being cut up and added to a salad is a projection you make NOW. There is no passage of time. There is only NOW. All else are memories or projections.

Zen buddhists are right in that the present moment is the only time you can do stuff but yesterday did exist and photos prove it. Therefore time does exist. Time never stops moving.

I would argue their is no present tense beyond a nano second.

I started this post 20 secs ago. That moment has past due to the passage of time.

The significance of the passage of time, right? The significance of the passage of time. So when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time

I had to look up "Tolle." I assume you mean Eckhart Tolle. Unlike him, I am not involved in any religion. You could call me an atheist, I guess. I practice zen.

I have practiced zen (not Zen Buddhism) for close to 60 years. There is nothing but Here and Now. The photo you are looking at NOW is the one you're looking at NOW. It's similar to a memory. The passage of time is a delusion, but, as is most of our (humans') delusions, it is very useful in our everyday existence.

No delusion. It is fact. Yesterday I rode 50km. I ate a,b and c foods. All proveable facts with photos.

I can't say I've never heard of him. His name is vaguely familiar. His site is called "Eckhart Tolle, Official Site - Spiritual Teachings and Tools." So, you're right in calling him a "Zen guy." Especially since you capitalized "Zen," which, when you do, is short for Zen Buddhism. I am not involved in Buddhism or any spirituality or religion. I just practice plain zen (lowercase), which is not a sect or subset of Buddhism.

You wrote "provable facts with photos." But when do these photos exist? They exist NOW. And you only look at them NOW. Any other time you remember you've looked at them is just a memory you have NOW.

The photos existed yesterday, today and tomorrow. There is no NOW. Time never stops moving. The earth never stops spinning. NOW is a delusion created by Zen guys looking for peace and understanding.

We know from sport an elite player can make the right decision in 0.6 seconds but that is instinct and muscle memory not deep thought. Humans need 1 to 3 days for deep thought.

The Zen stuff is just a way to exit the spinning world in the mind and pretend to live in the present moment. Zen is fake.

Clocks and calenders are man made but based on natural cycles that have been proven correct.

Every April 15 Chiang Mai is hot. Every Dec 15 it is cool. Natural cycle that repeats yearly. This is real.

Science is just man's way of understanding nature better.

The belief that the photos existed yesterday is based on a memory you have NOW. The belief that the photos will exist tomorrow is a projection you are making NOW. The belief in memories and projections is a delusion created by your intellect to reinforce other intellect-created delusions of logic, reason, cause-and-effect, and the passage of time. NOW was not created by "Zen (Buddhist) guys" or even zen (lowercase z, no Buddhism) guys like me. NOW is all there is. There is only HERE and NOW.

NOW does not exist. You can put time stamps on photos.

You have been brain washed sadly. Zen is not science. Man made mumbo jumbo.

If you smoke 3 packs a day your health will go down. Your daily habits control the enjoyment of the passage of time. So you delusion of NOW will be poor in the future or you will be dead sooner.

No! Science is man-made mumbo jumbo. That's what I've been saying all along. Science is a religion (mumbo jumbo) based on the belief in logic, reason, cause-and-effect, the passage of time, etc. It is a religion that worships the human intellect. Do you think logic, reason, and all the other things exist independent of humans? I don't. We (our intellect) created them.

And yes, Zen and zen are not science. Zen is Zen Buddhism and is a religion. Whereas zen is just being HERE and NOW.

Zen is mumbo jumbo aimed at hippies like you. There is no present moment. Time is a non stop train.

Science is based on evidence and facts. Zen is a belief system like religion.

If you smoke 3 packs of cigarettes a day, your health MIGHT go down. In fact, I'd say your health MOST LIKELY will go down. But that is not a 100% possibility. That's a good example of all scientific "laws." They only apply to the MOST LIKELY actions. They are not 100% accurate. This is because there is no logic or reason, cause and effect, or passage of time in reality. Only HERE and NOW can be claimed to be fact.

Science is right 40 to 95% of the time. Zen is false all the time cause their is no present moment. Time never stops moving. After 60 years of brain washing you won't change your mind though.

I disagree with you wholeheartedly. Science is based on delusions created by our intellect. We take evidence and stuff it into a box of logic and reason. The problem is that the box is either too large and the evidence doesn't fill up the whole box, or too small and the evidence spills out. Facts are a creation of science, not zen (lowercase z). Whereas zen (lowercase z) is only based on what we call experience - HERE and NOW. No delusional facts are claimed.

You keep making false statements based on the fake concept of NOW. Scientifically impossible for time to stand still. There is no NOW. 60 years of brain washing. You wasted your life believing a false narrative. Like religious types you will never upgrade your thinking. Ai can prove you wrong in 3 seconds.

Science might be right 99.9999% of the time, but that doesn't make it factual. Whereas zen (lowercase z) doesn't claim to be true or false, or right or wrong. zen (lowercase z) accepts what "we" (although there is no you, me, or we) experience HERE and NOW. And although zen identifies everything other than HERE and NOW as delusional, it doesn't expect you to ignore these delusions. They are helpful to your delusional self to live the delusional life we all have.
