I'm 70 and my expenses haven't increased, but my pension payments have.

Happy to take my wife's friends out once a month, spent 500bht last week, 4 meals and coffee, plus another 2 meals because the freeloaders were still hungry. Not at all expensive.

You add to the budget what you personally need, Cam. Personally, I would add another 2,000 baht for a proper gym.

You've got a pension. And some savings, I presume. Backpackers and foreign teachers won't have either if they spend their peak earning years barely scraping by in Thailand.

Edit: And, if you're lucky, it'll be fast. But the grim reaper is usually slow and very expensive when he comes to call. I spent over $50K USD out of pocket in Thai hospitals, last year alone.

DTV has been abused badly. Its introduction was influenced by property moguls eager to fill up their condominiums. Instead it’s let in the worst of the worst of society.

These aren’t digital nomads - these are scrounges , criminals, dead beats of society.

I for one have had enough of the place.

Many influences follow the same pattern. Make the viewer want live your life, tell them ways to get there - even if your life isn’t perfect and the ways to get there are not achievable it doesn’t matter. You want subscribers so you will sell them anything - it’s how that influencing play book works.

This type of nonsensical low key influencing. They are all peddling from the same coursebook. Namely to attract followers (that's when you can start earning some money) you want to make the viewer want to be you / to be in your situation. So these influencers sitting on a 36 degrees beach in the middle of a UK winter peddling nonsense about selling your home and moving to Thailand will influence some, and make others depressed.

They fail to give the big picture. Home schooling for children (some of these lot look like they can't read themselves so hell knows what home schooling they are doing), health insurance, homes are not cheap unless you want a shoe box, etc Dining out in nicer restaurants is not cheap. And it will cost to enjoy some of the perks and entertainment.

You have one guy who spent years hating on the UK, despite using that countries income to live nicely in Thailand, now moving back and taking his Thai lass with him ! What happened to all those years of telling us all the UK was awful ?

No need for health insurance, if you're that sick, stay in your home country.

Meal out in my local mountaintop restaurant 50bht a plate.

Obviously if you're a bit 'challenged', it'll cost you a lot more.

And if you need to work, you'll probably have problems.

Nearly all public schools in Thailand will speak, teach and communicate in Thai. They aren't easy to get into, and no chance if you are just here on a normal visa. How do your children then communicate with the teachers and other children? They don't follow the GCSE or American equivelent so renders their education pointless if they want to go abroad in future.

What visa are you on .... do you have a Thai partner ?

I live near MaeJo University, 12Km from the moat in CM.

My son speaks 3 languages at age 14, native speaker of English and Thai, China already want him as an exchange student. Can't see him ever having problems earning money.

A race is a race. Any rat can run in one.

And a bank balance tells you how much money you got.

Meanwhile, Life is not a race to something outside of yourself.

We all know what's waiting for us at the finish line. 🤗

I tell you, I wish I'd put my kids in government school. Their current school alternates English and Thai, but I'm not seeing them make huge progress with Thai.
