Yep and how some avoid grasping this is weird considering recent history in regards to condos. I have nothing against people using agents and over the last 25 years have used one twice I think when I messed up and didn't want to go through all the hoops to fix my mistake. Which remind me, I only have 15 days to get my balance to 800k. I used the money to buy a car this year.

edit: I wonder if I'm at risk. It has been 10 years since I used an agent. Probably OK.....

I do not expect there would be any benefit to them going back more than a year.

If there ever is a crackdown, IOs and the agents would be in trouble, the visa holders would likely just be made to comply,

More likely the banks would suddenly stop facilitating it and problem comes when people try to renew, in the same way Bangkok Bank has stopped

Its hard for me to imagine any client of getting visas and extensions without meeting financial requirements not knowing that they're participating in funny business.

That does leave them legally exposed in case there ever is a crackdown nobody will believe they didn't know.

Would not matter if they knew or not, does not male any difference legally, it would be laughable anyway for anyone to claim they did not know what they were doing was not corruption. Agents are up to their eyes in corruption, something everyone claims to be opposed to until they can benefit from it. IMHO most agents are parasites.

On a recent Buzzin Pattaya video the agent (who is a popular Agent but not the one you're refering to) said that he is still able to open Bank Accounts for people who need one to convert to a Non-IMM O Visa (and only for this reason) with most of the major Banks but not BBL (Bangkok Bank).

I was at the agent I believe you're refering to in early August doing my Extension & was able to use my BBL FD account (have > 800K in there so didn't need the "Agent Assisted Financing"), the guy sat next to me did need the financing help & was using a BBL account.

However, when these clampdowns 1st started (May/June 2025) BBL was off the list for a fair few months & you did need to open an account with a different bank or have your extension done in Bangkok. Since then the Agent we're talking about prefers to use KBank or Krungsri.

Many people now in trouble because of land nominees issues are arguing they were told it was all good by lawyers, real estate agents, and land offices.

Law suit are coming about that.

Commenting again on my "bold" assertion that there won't be a crackdown on visa agents in the foreseeable future, lets compare to the very shocking and disruptive crackdown on nominee usage for real estate.

Some predict that the land crackdown predicts an agent crackdown.

But they are very different things indeed.

The land issue is a perfect fit for Thai flavored hyper nationalism which is enjoying a recent great moment.

That's about the gut reaction to foreigners "stealing" Thai land which is an issue Thais are trained about form an early age.

Even though if there was corruption, it was shared liberally with Thai people, the e political focus is to demonize those "badly behaved" foreigners.

The visa agent thing is completely different.

It has nothing to do with land.

Yes it involves corruption and money but according to the norms here, the foreigners pay and some Thais get.

Why would a Somachai on the street care about people getting retirement extensions in a dodgy way when such people spend in the Thai economy just the same as compliant foriegners?
