Between 0.6 and 1.5 kWh typically. Hardly an engine. How far could you go on electric power? How fast could you go on it before the petrol engine kicked in and took over?

It was so quiet it was hard to tell, but I think that Lexus ES300 went 2 kms on its electric engine. Wonderful car.

The more you use an ICEV, the more it's going to cost you.

The more I don't use an ICEV, the more money I save.

Personally couldn’t care less and not in the least bit bothered dumping fuel in the tank for near instant gratification.

Good for you. But that is not an EV.

Clueless, yet pontificates like an expert.

The Chinese automotive market is well past two years here in th, so according to your prediction it should have wiped out the Japanese auto market here by now though it hasn’t…

If that were the case then why hasn’t it happened here in th?

Thailand doesn't have any car companies.

Of course not, though curious what that has to do with the Japanese auto market here?

I agree. Maybe where US made vehicles win out is in the truck category. I still see a large number of small Ford pickups in Thailand ( along with Toyotas and Isuzus.) My husband bought a new Ford Ranger Raptor and claims it is the best vehicle he has ever owned. Given that the Ford truck series (F150 -350) are still the most sold vehicles in the US, even if Chinese cars were able to sell in the US, there still would be a huge market for US made trucks.

And I was told to keep quiet about the fact that despi

As much as I liked my F150, I'd definitely take the Riddara RD6 over any ICE truck. Performance & cost / savings win.

If long haul and time is money, then ICE.

Are you missing out on something? You, removeed from the world's happenings? Empires rise and fall. The US Empire (as short as it lasted) is in decline. Replaced by a modern day China. Like it or not. Just get used to it. Artificial patriotism and a disturbed guy in the white house won't change it.

Lame and a bit dated. In the US there’s a lot of old vehicles still on the roads, mostly restored collector items of which the engines are still operating, mostly American and some Japanese and European. Never seen a restored Chinese vehicle though and doubt anyone ever will.

Who mentioned "restored Chinese cars"? You just made that up. I doubt I'd ever see a restored i40 either.

Most old cars in the US are not garage queens, museum pieces, heirlooms. Some might be.

There are about 10 million cars, out of 280 million, that are over 30 years old. There are about 2 million cars aged over 50 years old. Using insurance records, of those 2 million old cars, 30,000 are concours, about 400,000 are "excellent", 500,000 are "good", which means pass a UK style MOT. The rest are "rough"

The majority of cars aged over 30 years are junkers. A large reason for that is the lack of serious annual safety inspections. Like this POS that just a few days earlier was someone's daily

Or some American POS

Another cracking car that someone was driving everyday, and apparently taking great care of it/

Most people in the US own an old car because they can't afford a newer car.

Wait until the Ranger wetbelt <deleted>s itself.

The pickup market in the US is a protected market due to the Chicken Tax, a protectionist measure that denies consumers fair choice.

The Chinese do not have to pay their workers a high wage, therein lies the whole concept.

They can build the same or even better for half the price, there is no competing against that!

That is also why Apple phones are being build in China, that same phone build in the US would not be affordable.

That's also why Trump's advertised as "made in 'murika" $500 smartphone is actually an obsolete reskinned HTCU24 "made with 'murikan values in mind"..........in China.

Along with his bibles (printed in Hangzhou) and his patriotic flags and banners.

Winning!

I never said that the Chinese Political System is "good". It's incerdibly efficient. The "polit bureau" decides something, 2 weeks later it starts to be implemented, no matter what it is, while in "the west" parlamentary endless discussions stifle every effort to make Europe competitive again. Minor decicions in Europe take at least 2 years, before they pass "the lobbyist army". (the capitalist firewall).

PS: Most Chinese little people agree with their "polit bureau", as opposed to Europe, where "little people" trust less and less in their European "polit bureaus".

Yes, dictatorships are definitely more efficient.

Fair enough to ban them, or tax them into the next century, as each car probably is sending mapping information and economicall useful user habits etc. back to Beijing.

Why not? Especially as it is all coming from a country that won't even allow Google or Facebook etc. to operate in their country... can't have it both ways China.

Pretty much every new car sold now is tracking you.

https://www.mozillafoundation.org/fy-NL/blog/privacy-nightmare-on-wheels-every-car-brand-reviewed-by-mozilla-including-ford-volkswagen-and-toyota-flunks-privacy-test/

Popular global brands — including BMW, Ford, Toyota, Tesla, Kia, and Subaru — can collect deeply personal data such as sexual activity, immigration status, race, facial expressions, weight, health and genetic information, and where you drive. Researchers found data is being gathered by sensors, microphones, cameras, and the phones and devices drivers connect to their cars, as well as by car apps, company websites, dealerships, and vehicle telematics. Brands can then share or sell this data to third parties. Car brands can also take much of this data and use it to develop inferences about a driver’s intelligence, abilities, characteristics, preferences, and more.

Who started this? Not China. It was Ford, in their 1996 Lincoln Continental, supposedly providing innocent sounding GPS and emergency location services. GM followed this with Onestar.

The very worst offender is Nissan. The Japanese car manufacturer admits in their privacy policy to collecting a wide range of information, including sexual activity, health diagnosis data, and genetic data — but doesn’t specify how. They say they can share and sell consumers’ “preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes” to data brokers, law enforcement, and other third parties.

GM's OnStar Smart Driver programme collected detailed driving information from customers' vehicles and supplied it to data companies including LexisNexis Risk Solutions and Verisk. The FTC says that, in some cases, location information was collected as frequently as every three seconds.

So basically ban all car makes, or ban them on the base of facebook usage.

The reason the authorities expressed alarm on connectivity of Chinese companies is because they have been tracking you all along. They know the Chinese can do it because they, Western governments, have been doing this all along for the last 30 years. Darpa, for instance, has been working for decades on technologies to remotely immobilise vehicles. The EU looked at systems to take control of vehicles. UK police authorities work with car security companies to develop means to exploit embedded immobilisation systems remotely. Many recent Toyotas have OTA capabilities, which includes a remote shutdown function that Toyota can actuate upon request from Law Enforcement

https://www.toyota.ca/content/dam/toyota/pdf/connected-services/Connected-Services-Privacy-Notice-Toyota-and-Lexus_EN_2026-01.pdf

Your vehicle’s Safety Connect feature may include the Remote Immobilization feature, which allows Toyota to locate your vehicle and assist law enforcement with vehicle recovery in the event of a stolen vehicle report, subject to Toyota’s verification. If the Remote Immobilization request is initiated and directed by law enforcement, Toyota may immobilize the stolen vehicle remotely, which will prevent the vehicle from starting.

We may share your vehicle’s Location Data, linked to your VIN, and Account Information with emergency responders, law enforcement, our Parent Company (TMC), affiliates and service providers acting on our behalf, as well as any compatible third-party services or device you have authorized to receive your vehicle’s Location Data.

We may also process, store, and transfer your personal information outside Canada, namely in and to the USA and Japan, which are countries with different privacy laws that may or may not be as comprehensive as the law that applies in the jurisdiction in which you reside. In these circumstances, the governments, courts, law enforcement, or regulatory agencies of that jurisdiction may be able to obtain access to your personal information through the laws of that other jurisdiction.

If you carefully cover all of the body modules on your car with 3 layers of bacofoil, pro DARvide an effective defence. Make sure all of your speakers are removed, because they are listening, all the time.

Same BS, different day.

Remember when they talked the feds into increase taxes on Japanese vehicles then bumped the cost of the US junk to match? <deleted> GM, Ford & stelantis or what they're calling themselves this week.

15 hours ago, jvs said:

Again! The US can not compete! If the US would attempt to copy the same car it will cost double!

Let's look at the facts...

100% tarrifs on Chinese EVs essentially doubles the price.

Even with that advantage Cadillac can't compete with BYD Sealion 7, XPeng G6 , Zeekr 7X.

For anyone who's owned an old Caddy, you know everything breaks and is expensive to repair so you can't lower than window anymore because it costs $3000 to replace the switch.

But keep on thinking you're rich. 😎
