My cheap Chinese ev (neta v) is the best car I've ever owned (220,000bht).

Works perfectly, comfortable, no faults in the 14 months (14,000km) I've owned it.

If the Chinese were allowed to sell their cars with no tariffs in the west, every western car manufacturer would go bust in 2 years.

This is true, but not for the reason you claim. Western auto industry is ruined due primarily to them having to use ultra thin oils(even 0-8w😅) and garbage quality plastic components to pass insane green emission limits. Not to mention consumers want big screens and lots of tech trickery. It causes over complicated & unreliable cars which upsets purchasers. EVs are even worse in terms of tech that will assure the cars are in landfills in less than a decade.

Im always at car auctions. Fascinating to see 25yr old Toyotas selling for more than 10 year old EVs. Big revival in old diesels too. Nice to see.

The good old American technology is, erm, 50% LG, they provide the cell technology and manufacturing expertise.

And it still far behind China's technology. A generation behind at least. Outdated NMC battery rather than LFP. 400V architecture rather than 800V. Much slower charging. Much heavier (without putting an American fatty in there). And old fashion modular cell construction rather than cell-to-body.

It's basically a decent car but nowhere near on a technological par with the Chinese models. Not in terms of battery, construction, design, architecture. Oh, and NMC batteries are prone to catching fire.
