so you are saying china is superior to the usa in terms of freedom and overall good for the world.? got it.

so if the world was called to arms on behalf of either, you would fight for china. you believe in the chinese socialist economic system. you feel their judicial system is better. you have no problems with their oppression of the uighers, tibet, or christians. thanks for your honesty

If I spoke Chinese and English and was given the choice to retire in China or the USA (with no other options), I'd probably choose China. Purely on cost of living and availability of women.

While I'm not entirely sure on levels of freedom USA Vs China, I am sure on the levels of freedom UK Vs China and China is much more free than the UK. Not to mention percieved personal safety where China absolutely wins Vs UK/USA.

When I visited China in 2019, I was absolutely shocked how inaccurate the western media had portrayed it. Nobody cared where I went or what I did, immigration just ignored me (unlike USA and UK passport control). The police allegedly watching and following foreigners just didn't exist.

And the Chinese people appeared to be living happy lives (compared to the UK/USA where almost nobody is happy ..... not even the immigrants).

Fair enough to ban them, or tax them into the next century, as each car probably is sending mapping information and economicall useful user habits etc. back to Beijing.

Why not? Especially as it is all coming from a country that won't even allow Google or Facebook etc. to operate in their country... can't have it both ways China.

No Facebook sounds like progress to me. Less kids killing themselves. Less social degeneration.

Who mentioned "restored Chinese cars"? You just made that up. I doubt I'd ever see a restored i40 either.

Most old cars in the US are not garage queens, museum pieces, heirlooms. Some might be.

There are about 10 million cars, out of 280 million, that are over 30 years old. There are about 2 million cars aged over 50 years old. Using insurance records, of those 2 million old cars, 30,000 are concours, about 400,000 are "excellent", 500,000 are "good", which means pass a UK style MOT. The rest are "rough"

The majority of cars aged over 30 years are junkers. A large reason for that is the lack of serious annual safety inspections. Like this POS that just a few days earlier was someone's daily

Or some American POS

Another cracking car that someone was driving everyday, and apparently taking great care of it/

Most people in the US own an old car because they can't afford a newer car.

Here are more "restored" cars!

Just amazing!

Same here, I would choose China because of the women. Lovely white skin, serving you food like a baby, nothing like a Chinese woman. Also because the cities are so exciting, Chongqing is better than London. And cheap as chips for food.

I also had a very positive experience when I went to China. Lovely people. Only the cars are terrible.

If the Chinese were allowed to sell their cars with no tariffs in the west, every western car manufacturer would go bust in 2 years.

Yet Chinese manufacturers have been selling cars here in th for well over two years and the foreign market has yet to go bust, why is that? And why would it in the western market and not here? Though yet their numbers have declined, yet especially the Japanese vehicles are still the top sellers. The only reason why the Chinese market is doing well here is because of the cheap price of the vehicles, that’s all it is. So in turn the foreign manufacturers are of course making adjustments in the market sector here, though the market here for Japanese vehicles is in high demand, especially the pickups. Japanese vehicle market here in th isn’t going anywhere and will remain on top of the market. Anyway, all this defensiveness about these CCP controlled auto manufacturers is a bit over the top.

You seem to equate my post "western manufacturers" with "foreign manufacturers"

I'm sorry but I can't fix stupid.

As for Japanese manufacturers, I think you'll find they're all going bust, and the Japanese Yen is getting flushed down the toilet along with it's manufacturing industry.

No. If it were to happen there, then why hasn’t it happened here.

It’s simply a matter of market demand.

Chinese are focused on ev’s, as far as the West is concerned, can’t speak for Europe, though the market in the US for ev’s just never developed into the big boom that was predicted. It ain’t gonna happen in the foreseeable near future for many reasons.

China used industrial espionage to advance their knowledge? Really, shocked!

Before that it was Japan who used to copy others to produce cheap and nasty electronics. Guess what, both are now better at it than other countries who stubbornly cling to past glories and techniques.

After WW11 the US of A purloined German scientists who were more advanced with rocketry, weapons, medicine, aviation and other things. and used them to build their knowledge in those fields.

They captured Japanese doctors and scientists who, during the war, carried out horrific medical experiments and research into chemical weapons using Chinese civilians as lab animals. They killed thousands with inhuman methods. The US pardoned them in exchange for their knowledge and research papers.

The Chinese now sell more cars than anyone alse because they are eons more advanced from the elevated coal burning pickup trucks with special giant flag holders at the rear. America should steal their tech and future thinking ideas!

How many countries has China bombed in the last, say, 50 years?

Now ask the same question of the US.

Then see if you are intelligent enough to compare the two numbers and draw a conclusion.

And is it as bad as the 250,000 young women being raped by foreign invaders in the UK?

Chinese people don’t see the atrocities of the government, they just disappear. But you patriotic Red China types will bat a blind eye in order to save a little money. You guys are really on the cheap end would be buying cars from Nazi Germany if they doling out inexpensive cars.

My son is learning Chinese in school, and hoping to be an exchange student in China.

I'm hoping his Brit passport will get him a job working for the Chinese government in the UK or Thailand.

China is a lovely country with great, peaceful and happy people.

Unlike the UK which only seems to have unhappy people and stabby (also unhappy) invaders.

Off topic,

If Hitler had won the war, I'm thinking Europe would be a much better place to live today. Let's face it, it couldn't be worse!

China didn't have much indigenous oil or the oil vehicle fuel delivery infrastructure but they were building countrywide electrical infrastructure and coal fired power stations so they made a conscious decision to go electric.

The along came global warming public opinion and climate change measures and all of a sudden it was socially virtuous to have an electric car.

Chinese car manufacturers (taught by western car companies) were only too happy to oblige and didn't have to worry so much about their cars being compared to quality legacy products.

Eh Voila!

Bullship.

The 'crisis' is that they named one of their cars the ID Buzz.

Worst name ever in the history of automotive manufacturing.

Bring the damn thing back properly as a full camper van, with its original name, available to American buyers.

Indeed.

But the Fabians didn't bankroll car co's that want their 'product' to be parked in Americans' garages!

I did when living in the USA, as prioritized my spending, since funds for excesses, where limitied. Only one new truck, as a work truck, an inexpensive entry level Nissan.

My brothers on the other hand, every 3 or 5 years, something spanking brand new in their driveway, as mine were usually 10ish yrs old, under $1000, theirs $5000 & up. Till the 90s, then $10k & up to more than I paid for my houses cheesy

Same with friends, peers, co-workers .... BUT ... I retired at 45, and for the last 8 yrs in the USA, worked only 2 days a week, priorities 😁

Now retired, wouldn't own a 2nd hand vehicle, and on my 8th in 22 yrs, 3rd MC, 5th car.

You can just imagine President Xi getting his daily updates:

"Sir, Woke To Sounds took his BYD Dolphin to Walmart this morning, then he went back home. He popped out again later in the day to pick up some polish for his gun rack, stopped at McDonald's, went home. No further movements."

Very true. I could not say if these Chinese cars are good or bad, though I have low confidence and given the choice between a German/Japanese/Korean/American/British/French car or a Chinese one, there is no chance in hell I would buy a Chinese car.

It's not just about cars, the car industry is the backbone of the British and German and French economy, anyone who buys a Chinese car is basically a traitor to their own country.

the UK car manufactories was slow to respond to Japanese imports back in the past, that why there are only a handful left today, and the Japanese are now in the same boat, slow to respond to EV's and left behind by the Japanese

  • Popular Post

As the first petrol engine car was invented in Germany by Herr Benz, I guess that America copied from Germany.

I also suspect the Japanese copied the Europeans.

If China is copying anyone, it depends on who you think invented the first electric vehicle.

The problem America now faces is that the Chinese are beating them.

Banning Chinese vehicles implies they are too inexpensive and high quality. You don't see imported American cars outside of America due to the poor manufacturing quality and 10% tariffs.

Now we fear Chinese cars. Banning them proves how good they are.

Don't remember saying 'market would go bust in USA within 2 yrs'. That was britman2, and gives Yanks more credit that myself.

Yanks are too ignorant, and full of themselves, and actually believe they make some of the best vehicles, products, or have the best anything, except most incarcerated or largest defense budget.

Look how long it took them to accept JP made better vehicles. How did they compete agains that, they didn't, they invested & partnered and let JP make their vehicles cheesy

My Ford Escort was a completely rebadged Mazda.

That's what scares the USA auto industry, as that, partnering, won't be an option, with BYD, SAIC, and other CN BEV makers. They've already have CN making vehicles for them, the companies CN didn't just take over completely, as they failed to compete.
