The majority of Congress supports Israel. Party affiliation is, for the most part, irrelevant. And whatever funding Open Secrets receives, it certainly isn’t showing up as a political benefit in Congress.

How do you know that OpenSecrets influence does not show up in Congress. Is it because Trump has such strong bi-partisan support?

As for Democrats and the midterms? Surely you must realize that they’ll use any weapon in their disposal to defeat the Republicans, including a feigned outrage over Israel’s actions. The public is outraged, and you can be sure they’ll use that to their advantage.

So the Democrats will lie and pretend their position on issues is different than it actually is, and swing back after the election

After the elections, it’ll be too late to change the outcome and it’ll be business as usual in Congress.

Too late to change the outcome of what?

If the harassment of Jews is a result of Netanyahu's actions, why were there no significant number of university students harassing Muslims after 9/11 and/or 10/7. If there had been, do you think many in the press/left would be supporting them, or making excuses for them?

How do I know that Open Secrets influence does not show up in Congress? Have you ever heard of the Black Box theory of politics? Basically, the Black box is the political system which accepts inputs at one end and creates outputs at the other. Whatever happens in that Black Box is not particularly transparent, but that doesn’t matter, especially in this case. The output of the black box is what matters. And the output is clear: Israel is supported by Congress.

As for Trump? Obviously, he does not have strong bipartisan support. Quite the opposite. And yes, elections are one thing and business as usual is something else. It’s no big secret that politicians will say anything to get elected, and then, once that happens, they do what they want to do. Campaign promises don’t mean much. It’s almost a joke.

As for the various responses to 9-11 and 10/07? Start another thread on those topics. Those were different times. And the political climate was different.

I guess i’m not sure what you’re asking. 9/11 was 25 years ago. A different America. A different world. I was in the DC area back then and remember well the reactions. I remember Muslims driving around with an American flag out their window, hoping that they wouldn’t be targets for retribution.. And, from what I understand, they wasn’t any.. I think most people realized that all Muslims are not terrorists.

Did you not understand the questions?

If the harassment of Jews is a result of Netanyahu's actions after 10/7, why were there no significant number of university students harassing Muslims after 10/7? We're Muslims waving American flags then?

And if university students had been harassing Muslims, do you think many in the press/left would be supporting them, or making excuses for them?

In any event, apparently most people agree that all Muslims are not terrorists, but most people do not agree that most Jews are not terrorists.

So, you’ve dropped 9/11 and we’re now discussing 10/7?

I don’t know if there was any significant harassment of Muslims after 10/7. It’s not as if that was the beginning of conflicts in the area. I wasn’t in the United States on 10/7, so I don’t really remember what the reaction was. In my mind, it was just more the same nonsense that has been going on in that part of the world for a long long time.

As for Jews and terrorism? Well, thanks to Netanyahu and his nonsensical obsession with Iran, the issue is in the news and a war is in progress. Justified or not, Jews all over the world are paying the price. People don’t think, they just react, and they react based on what’s in the news.

I asked about 10/7 several times, you just ignored it, and dodged the question using 9/11, so yes, I dropped 9/11 to avoid the same dodge, and left 10/7.

Do you not think that harassment of Muslim students would have made the news, or does the New York Times only care when Jews are harassed?

In your mind, 10/7 "...was just more the same nonsense that has been going on in that part of the world for a long long time.", with "the same" being Palestine attempting to kill as many Jews as possible.

20% of the population in Israel are Arab, and Israel is not killing all the Arabs they can.

O% of the population in Palestine is Jewish, and Palstine is killing all the Jews they can.

But we are to believe that Israel is committing genocide on Palestine.

Per the UN definition, Palestine is committing genocide on Israel.

I'm happy to give "dome favts" (some facts) to support what Nickswrote. It certainly wasn't bs.

First and foremost- it's a total myth Jews and Muslims lived in harmony in Palestine and the rest of the Middle East before the Zionist movement began in the 1880s. in fact, Jews have been oppressed by Muslims since the earliest years of Islam. It's always been the goal of Palestinians and others to drive out the Jews. It's just that there were no Palestinians prior to the British Mandate.

I'll begin with the recent stuff. In 2017, Hamas issued a document which stated: "Hamas rejects any alternative to the full and complete liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea."

Hamas couldn't get much clearer than that. It also said:

"There shall be no recognition of the legitimacy of the Zionist entity. Whatever has befallen the land of Palestine in terms of occupation, settlement building, Judaization or changes to its features or falsification of facts is illegitimate. Rights never lapse.

"Hamas believes that no part of the land of Palestine shall be compromised or conceded, irrespective of the causes, the circumstances and the pressures and no matter how long the occupation lasts.

 https://www.wilsoncenter.org/article/doctrine-hamas

The original charter of Hamas had stated: “There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.” Article 13 in https://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/hamas.asp Hamas never withdrew the original covenant.

Hezbollah is equally adamant about the destruction of Israel ("this entity"):

"Therefore our struggle will end only when this entity is obliterated. We recognize no treaty with it, no cease fire, and no peace agreements, whether separate or consolidated. We vigorously condemn all plans for negotiation with Israel, and regard all negotiators as enemies, for the reason that such negotiation is nothing but the recognition of the legitimacy of the Zionist occupation of Palestine."

https://ict.org.il/UserFiles/The Hizballah Program - An Open Letter.pdf

Hamas officials can get quite blood-thirsty in their rhetoric, Hamad Al-Regeb in an April 2023 sermon prayed for “annihilation” and “paralysis” of the Jews whom he described as filthy animals: “[Allah] transformed them into filthy, ugly animals like apes and pigs because of the injustice and evil they had brought about.” Al-Regeb also prayed for the ability to “get to the necks of the Jews.”  https://www.adl.org/resources/article/hamas-its-own-words

No doubt Palestinians from the tip leaders on down are dedicated to the destruction of Israel and its Jewish citizens,

Someone made a joke about Jesus earlier in the thread.

The fact is that Islam teaches that Jerusalem is the 3rd holiest city after Mecca and Medina.

And the Jews also believe Jerusalem is the Holy Land.

So the religions have had these two groups pitted against each other for thousands of years, I guess long before Zionism.

Otherwise, the Jews could easily have their own state in Eastern Europe somewhere far away from Muslims. This is all about religious beliefs.

So religion is the main problem. And if people are willing to die for their stupid religion, then they're stupid. Religions should have been abolished a long time ago.

Nothing "Holy" about that land as far as I'm concerned. In fact, it seems "cursed" to me. It's the crime of the century to brainwash people that they are on "holy land".

pure racially biased speculation. you dont fight wars on peculation or lies. it was a terror attack unlike the military reaction Israel has taken in response not just to Gaza but other neighboring countries. you dont go full scale military action and call it the same thing.

It was an invasion .

The plan was for Palestine to invade from the South, Hezbollah to invade from the North and West bankers to join from the East .

Israel wants to stop there being another invasion from Palestine , turning Gaza into rubble is the solution to that concern
