I'm a US citizen and am intereted in a 1-2 week holiday to Sydney with my TGF. She's in her last year of University and is a full time student. I will be in BKK in October, should we apply at that time, do I have have all our travel arrangements made by then, any difficulties outside the norm to be aware of, should we use a service perhaps..? If its too much a pain ..I'll happily spend my money in HK or Bali someplace easy to go but I would like to dive the GBR possibly with her.

Thanks for any advice.

Both of you will need to apply for tourist visas through the VFS Office, Bangkok.

From the side bar of the above link, check out the 'visitor visa' information. This should tell you all that you need to know.

Once the tourist visa has been approved, you will have a three month window in which to activate it.

It will be Summer in Oz during December. A nice time to visit, particularly if you like the beaches.

Put your applications in together as one package.....especially if you are supplying all the funds...write a letter or stat dec stating that you are supporting her while she is here. You need to ensure that they are considered like a joint application.

If they are lodged separately then they will be considered separately.

Takes about 5-6 working days to process the applications

Thanks for the suggestion to basically go the sponsorship route. It worked and she received a 3 month tourist visa!!!. We did not use a service, we just compiled various documents including my financial position, that I was funding the holiday, the 48r, photos, hotel booking, cover letter and her school documents and she walked it over. Thanks again.
