Ok Guys and Gals

Having read current posts I'm now in a real state of confusion.

Can one get a visa (extension) based on being married to a Thai national

but with only the required 40k (or 45k - depending on who's posting!) income form abroad?

Also, when I go to Thai Embassy in the UK later this year with

documents supporting this income, which visa should I expect to receive, and how

long should it last?

Will it be for a month and then need extending 11 months as happens to some in LOS immigration?

This is all getting rather complicated!

You obtain visa extensions of stay inside Thailand from Immigration so it has nothing to do with any Embassy/Consulate.

You use marriage certificate and copy of wife ID card to obtain non immigrant visa at a Consulate. This could be single entry for a period of 90 days or multi entry to cover 90 day stays for up to the one year validity of that type. For this you do not need money or visit to immigration.

With a non immigrant visa (or upon change to one) you can extend your stay at an Immigration office for one year at a time. This would not require leaving every 90 days as with visa entry. The requirement is 40k family income. If from overseas it is proved with a letter from your Embassy and supporting paperwork if requested. You need to make application with wife and many photocopies of paperwork but cost is only 1,900 baht.
