Shinokville

Featured Replies

I would like to go to Shinokville via Trat , Koh Kong anyone done it.? Where I get coach and what time please. Many Thanks

I have done this trip twice, great fun and a good place to visit. The way I did it was I headed off at 7 AM. I got up to Sukhumvit road and stood at the bus stop and took the first bus that came along to Rayong. At Rayong bus terminal you change and take another bus to Trat. Trat now has a new bus terminal and has a stand where mini vans wait and will take you to the border. The stand is clearly sign posted and the fare is 110 baht. When you get to the border at Had Lek you simply check out of Thailand and then walk directly to the Cambodian Immigration Office a buy a tourist visa. This cost me 1,000 baht 2 years ago. Make sure you have a photo for this visa.

Whilst you are doing that there will be several touts watching you and hanging around waiting to take you to town (Ko Kong). Ignore those guys until you have finished and have your visa and you have checked in. Once finished they will hassle you to take you into town. There is one mob of guys who are with the guest house Ramsay Bhuntan, they will want to take you there but you can just hire those guys to take you to your hotel of choice. There are quite a few there, most run buy Kiwis, Aussies and English people. Ramsay Bhuntan are local people and I have stayed there twice. The Moto Hotel seems a popular choice and is run by a Kiwi.

If you leave 7 AM you will be in Ko Kong around 4 or 5 PM. I would stay there a couple of nights and by that time you will be ready to move on. To get to Sihanoukville you have 2 choices, the boat which goes at 8 AM or by road in a mini van. I did the road trip and it was fun. I personally like Sihanoukville better than Ko Kong and would go back there in a flash. It's nice and quiet with just enough bars to keep you occupied and plenty of nice restaurants. The beaches are great down there too.
