Hi all

Next year my gf will be applying for a fiancee visa to the UK. One of the requirements is for her to show her original birth certificate. After checking, would the embassy return this document to her? If not, would they accept a certified copy? :o

Thanks

To be honest, I don't see the need to submit a birth certificate as the embassy will otherwise have evidence of your fiancée's nationality and identity in the form of her passport. However, if you wish to submit it, then a certified copy should be fine. If you hand in the original, this should also be returned.

I had read in the guidance notes (INF4) on the UKvisas web site that the birth certificate was one of the accompanying documents needed for this type of visa. However, if it is just a matter of them quickly checking document and returning it to my fiancee then this is re-assuring to know.

Scouser, many thanks for your reply

Cheers
