Embedding Pictures

Featured Replies

One way to add a picture into a post is to upload it from my harddisk, then attach it. This, I know how to do.

This time, however, I want to embed in a post a picture that is already somewhere on the Internet. So I click on the icon '"Import Image", paste the URL, click on OK, and get this (substitute square brackets "[]" for carets "<>":

<img]http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=104059730709531040566.00043ae1c0d3c519ca638&t=h&om=0&ll=8.112298,98.315063&spn=0.017037,0.028925&z=15[/img>

The result is an error message when I preview my post "Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed":

Next, I want to embed in my post a picture that another poster had already uploaded to the ThaiVisa server and embedded in his post. No need to save this picture to my harddisk and upload it again, I figure. So I use the function "Import Image" again:

<img]http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=42535[/img>

Result: same error message.

As near as I can figure out, the problem is that my links contain "dyanamic pages", ie point to a web page that gets its information from a database, and the "Import Image" function does not allow it.

Now, with the second picture, the one on the ThaiVisa site, I do not mind uploading it again in my name even if it means clogging up the server, but I would really like to link to the Google map because this will enable readers to zoom in and out of the map online. I know I can add the link to some text, but I really would like to include a thumbnail of the picture in the post. Is this possible?

Mystery understood. Can't be done the way I had hoped. Have to save the picture on my computer and upload it again.
