Amazon.com started to sell mp3s online today. 256bit encoding, no digital restrictions management.

For all those who

1 - Would rather buy their music than steal it

and/or

2 - Don't want to hack the music they legally own so they can use it freely

I bought an album immediately to show my support :o

I have a U.S. credit card but I would really like to know if this is finally the point where music - apart from independents - can be bought online, legally, and from all countries in the world. After all, unlike iTunes, Amazon accepts all credit cards, not just U.S. based ones... would be a major shift for the big evil music labels, e.g. finally coming to their senses...

I'll try it later to see if they'll accept my Canadian cards, or if Amazon.ca will be doing the same. This has been too long in coming.

Amazon let you download from Thailand? That is good news indeed as most of the other online sellers won't allow it.

I later found out that the terms of use state that they will only be selling music in the U.S. Sigh. Same old crap. Why they do this kind of BS is beyond me.

They probably enforce it with the billing address of the credit card

Music Industry, when will you wake up? :D :D :o
