(Also, are rents seriously increasing or is it just me? (well, him.) I used to rent a house of that type in a popular compound for 5000 baht. Yet all he finds is 13K and above. Ok it does have furniture and airconditiong, but who cares about those; you can just BUY those and own it, AND have quieter aircons and furniture that's above newspaper quality.

Also he's a writer/journalist, almost 40 years old and very well behaved. So don't let that stop you recommending a place next door.

there is a moo baan close by the hang dong market that i rented a 3bd 2 bath 2 story home for 3,000 per month. About 50% of the houses are empty so he should be able to find one still available. Might have to pay 4,000 or 5,000 now but better than 13,000

I was cruising around a couple of the moobahns (about 2 weeks ago) as I also have a friend that will be here for approx a year and was surprised to see how few for rent or even sale signs there were.

But it seems there are agent websites packed out with houses, so I really don't get it.

There was a 1 storey house on a thai website in Ban Wangtan for 7k/month if that's any good

I thought in general, prices in the Hang Dong area seemed to have increased. A very small house in Kull. 6/7 was approx 15-20k I was told but couldn't find one for rent. Laguna (Mae Jo direction) was a possibility but nothing in there that I saw.

Maybe Roong Aroon would have something, that was a bit far so didn't check.

Here is a google image of where the moo baan i am referring to . I don't know the name but it is real close to the market. I circled the moo baan and wrote market where the market is. There will be a few signs but you can ask at the front office which houses are for rent.

You obviously didn't drive through my neighbourhood, as there are five nice houses for rent (one for sale) within a hundred metres of my house, and quite a few others up the road.
