Howdy,

On the hunt for a new notebook. Fancy an Asus, nothing fancy just medium spec.

I have my own genuine copy of XP Pro, not ready to upgrade to Vista yet.

Because I'm a lazy git and it's raining here most days, I can't be bothered trawling the local shops checking prices etc.

At home I buy everything over the internet, but Thailand seems to be lacking in the on-line store department. Any particular reason for this?

I found this website today. http://www.tohome.com/

Based in BKK, prices seem ok.

Just wondered if anyone had ordered from them before or if they could suggest an alternative?

I'm in Phuket by the way.

Thanks JAF.

Just found another thread listing loads of on-line retailers.

Here...

www.tohome.com seem well regarded. But as you say, a little pricey.

Asus seem to be doing a promotion with free carry bags and mice at the moment.

Just hunting through the other sites now to compare prices.

Also noticed that some shoppers have been paying by ATM transfer as their credit card will not authorise a Thai address. Is this safe?

My main problem is that I don't know Phuket that well. The only places I know sell notebooks are Central and Carrefour.

If someone could recommend a place for me I'll go there in person.

A more up to date list of shops in pinned topics now > http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=61857

I bought from tohome.com several times with no problems. Latest was a Canon S5 IS digital camera. Some prices are high, some on par. Also, have used CC and ATM transfers for payment on the sites you see in bold in the above topic and no problems.

FYI, your copy of XP will not legally activate on the new hardware, you will require a new license...basically changing the motherboard of the initial computer you activate XP on counts as buying a new computer, thus requiring a new license in Microsoft's book.

Thanks Tywais

Very comprehensive list there.

Florin - It's a Microsoft Select copy of XP with SP2. No problems with installing on multiple machines as I've used it for creating build images for rollouts of new desktops. (my profession is IT)
