Hi to All,

I did a search of the forum but I can't seem to track down any info' specific to my question - so.........

I live in Chiang Mai - (moved here 2 months ago) - and I don't hold any kind of driving licence from anywhere in the world - and I haven't had one for a number of years - I want to buy a motorbike here - how do I go about getting a Thai motorcycle license from scratch ?

I'm not interested in a car license - I just want to get a bike a.s.a.p.

Thanks in advance,

Phil - (resrea).

Depends on your Visa. If you have a non-O renewable at Immigration every 90 days, then you get your residence cert at immigration cheap. If not, you get your residence certificate (as I did) at the consulate for about 1100 THB (US consulate, don't know others).

Physical at any hospital, 60-100 THB, will take you 20 mins.

Two pics, passport with valid visa.

55 THB

Written test, which is acutally done on a computer.

A road test, which you'll take along with scads of Thais, and will pass unless you're drunk.

First, just go to the Motor Dept building on the Hangdong road across from the southern end of the airport runwat. Second floor information desk, lady there speaks English and will spell it out for you.

If you're going to stay a long time or drive a lot, you should get your auto license there as well.
