I have been very tentatively looking at the possibility of living in Laos however looking at The Laotian visa regulations it seems that unless

you have business connections / are an NGO/or have a laotian family you can only get a very short tourist visa---------- is this correct ?

and if so are there any "other" avenues for staying in Laos

I would love to hear from someone who has lived in Laos as to what were the major drawbacks of living in this beautiful country

While unsuccessfully trying to gather information on the above i came across a very large well produced web site for ex pats in Laos

it was very similar in size and scope to THAI VISA except the silence of chatter was deafening there had not been much more than 3 posts

in 2 years and they had gone unanswered - very strange - don,t really know what to make of that

anyhow would be grateful for any first hand information thankyou
