Someone told me that any UK tourist visa applications have to be submitted by the end of next week otherwise they wont be issued for xmas as there is such a high number of people applyng for the holidays...does anyone know about this?

Providing that the applicant does not require an interview, I can't see there being that much of a backlog. Indeed, there's nothing mentioned on the embassy website. The current cost is 4536 baht for a six-month visit visa.
