Childs Nationality Etc

Featured Replies

A couple of questions i need help on if possible. If the child of my girlfriend and i was born in Thailand or England would it make any difference?Would he just not get a British passport anyway as his father is British? My first son was born in the Philippines and he has a British passport.

Secondly my girlfriend and i are planning to go to Hong Kong, philippines and maybe Malaysia over Chistmas and New year. What documents will she need? She was married in Italy before but has a Thai passpoirt but indefinite stay in Italy,

Many thanks

Have a look at the thread pinned at the top of this forum:-

In particular:-

An unmarried father may now pass on his British citizenship, but only if it is reasonable to believe that he is, indeed, the child’s father. Usually, this would entail him being named on the child’s Thai birth certificate which must also have been issued within one year of the birth.

Having established that the foregoing criteria are satisifed, the child will have an automatic entitlement to British citizenship, but will be British "by descent". This means that if s/he goes on to have a child of his/her own who, in turn, is born outside of the UK, his/her offspring will not be British.

Scouse.
