Hi all just thought I would let you all know my wife and step daughter were granted there Visa's on Thursday in which I am totally over the moon about.Just goes to show a little bit of hard work patience and perserverence and a lot of help/advice from people here on Thai Visa does pay off,I cant say THANK YOU enough to all those who gave me great advice/tips in processing the application.I owe each and every one of you a beer or two.

She now just has to go down to Bangkok on the 1st of next month to pick up the Visa's,then organise a few things before we head to Australia just after christmas.

Does anyone know if there is a Thai community here in Perth and if so what sort of things do they do.

Is it true that some airlines offer a migration allowance we will fly back to Perth with Thai Airways.

great news mate,

dont know about the thai community in perth, burnsie would probably know, but for me living in south oz it is as simple as finding the nearest thai temple and meet people from there, it will give you and your wife a good starting point for both thai and farang relationships and thai/thai relationships and you will find that the land of smiles is alive and well in perth as it is in most other states

We are still waiting for a letter of consent from the boys father....hopefully will be resolved soon :o If we gets it then she will be here just after Christmas also.

There is a Thai community in Perth................

But be careful, it is small and there is a lot of bitchiness around.....let her find her own way and dont try too hard to find her friends, she will sort that out.

She can meet Thai's at places like Lucky's in Brisbane Street Northbridge, thats an Asian food store, well priced and carries most things she will need for cooking. Temple events are ok as are organised events but thats where care is needed, a lot of the girls showpony at these events. There are 3 temples....one in Nollamarra, one in Serpentine which is the retreat, and a Nuns place tho not sure where that is.

I dont know your wifes or your background is, so it is hard to say too much. My wife has a small circle of friends but they are good friends.

Your wife will need to contact her local Thai Airways office to find out about the migration baggage allowance. Let me know the result of that please.

Thanks Boof and Mac

I cant begin to tell you how happy I am,I am sure they will have some sort of community here in Perth just a matter of tracking it down,I do know where a Thai temple is so I will be checking it out when I get the chance.I have tried most of the restaurants here in Perth.

Maybe you guys know we were married in Thailand legally according to Australian and Thai laws, what I need to know is do I have to contact birth deaths and marriages here in Perth or would the Oz embassy in Thailand have already lodged it on my behalf.

One very happy Oz farang

My wife is Akha she is christian so I am not sure if going to a Thai temple is the appropiate thing, though I am sure the religious barrier wouldnt bother her,she can speak Thai well and is often considered Thai as opposed to Akha anyway.I will take that onboard the bitchiness etc.My wife Bo would rather make friends over time and take things as they come sort of speak.

Do you know the exact address of Lucky's on Brisbane street,I do know where other Asian shops are.

I will let you know more about the baggage allowance once I know more about this myself.

If you were legally married in Thailand, Ie you registered with the Ampole then that is all you need to do. Your marriage will be recognised by Australian law but it will not be registered in Australia as it is registered legally in Thailand. You cannot be registered in 2 places.. As such neither you nor the Embassy need to do any more.

Congradulations, I have a friend up here who received his TW's residency visa last week also.

Unfortunately this is a true statement. My TW does not want to associate with Thais in Perth after a couple of bad experiences at Thai restaurants. When we decide to eat Asian she prefers Vietnamese. She and her step daughter have had Aus residency for over 5 years now but we will never live there permanently. AND that, I might add, was clearly stated at the interview for permanent residency after the 2 year temporary residency term.

It just means we will have another interview after the 5 year permanent residency term to continue.
