Visa Overstay In South Africa

Featured Replies

A farang friend died whilst he and his TGF were in South Africa. She now wants to return to Thailand but with one thing and another she finds herself on a 3 month overstay there.

She wants to know what will happen to her at the SA Airport and what penalties will apply.

Thank you.

First off suggest she call the Thai Embassy there in Pretoria and ask what they think about the situation.  They mig

some good suggestions.

Hmmm, you're in Udorn but still perhaps you could get through the South African Embassy here in Bangkok and ask them for ideas.  I note that their Consular section does have email:  Consular: [email protected]

Sure sounds like she has a decent reason for the overstay, hopefully it'll also appear so to SA Immigration.

Thank you Mac. I tried all day yesterday to get onto the SA Immigration web site but had a terrible GPRS connection, I did post this on another site and found that the penalities were something like 1500 Rand 30 days to 3 months and 3000 Rand over 3 months. The woman concerned has no problem paying the fine she just does not want any hassles. It will be all over tomorrow.
