Neighbour's Construction Noise

“In Thailand, regulation working hours must not exceed eight hours a day, consequentially restricting the maximum work week to 48 hours.

However, the owner is allowed to request overtime hours that must not exceed 36 hours a week, though it is up to the official at the Labor Office who handles the request to decide whether or not to grant overtime.

In regards to the noise that disturbs you and your family, I advise you to contact Rawai Tambon Administration Organization (OrBorTor) and inquire about what can be done.

Another option would be to file a compliant with the Damrongtham Center at Phuket Provincial Hall, which may allow you to raise the issue the governor.”

Wednesday, October 10, 2007 An officer at the Phuket Labor Protection and Welfare Office.

Welcome to Thailand (especially Bangkok)...like what else is new. The general cacophony of severe noise pollution is what eventually drove me from Bangkok. As in most things in LOS, it will be found to be legal if they are higher social/economic standing than you. If they are generally lower class than you, you should be able to pay-off the local police into enforcing (or at least reminding them) of the laws regarding construction days/hours. Just remember like others have said, you have to live next to these people for the duration so try to maintain cordial relations :o

Next to my apartment in China they built a new apartment complex. They would start at 6am every day, and stop working around 1am. This went on for almost two years. Hard to get to sleep, and then when you finally get to sleep they wake you up nice and early.

Buildings have to be built you know, stop complaining you live in one right !!

You sound like you are from the Bendix school of, Thais can't do anything wrong.

Greedy developers don't have the right to work outside the permitted times.

They do so, since they pay off the people that are supposed to protect the rights of the neighbors.

The OP doesn't say they're working outside normal working hours. Lucky the tile layers haven't been working a night shift, or maybe that's to come...

If construction's been going on for more than a year, probably best to grin & bear it, surely close to completion? P%ss the future neighbours off now & they're more than likely to make life hel_l once they move in.

The more over time they do, the quicker it gets built, the sooner they outa there.....simple really.

Legal or not, I don't think there's a thing you can do about it.

If you're on good terms maybe you can talk to them. But it may not work, they probably see things in terms of 'power', i.e. who are you and what makes you think you have power to stop them?

If they were considerate ppl they would arrange their schedule so that quieter work was done on Sundays.

Our neighbors were really noisy when building, Sunday was our only day off. Once I asked the workers not to jackhammer next to our building on a Sunday, they stopped but only for that day.

They family owned 3 houses in the street and seem to figure they only the street itself, walking up and down as if on patrol.

Disputes with neighbors are common here, there's a strong sense of family, but poor sense of community.
