Gee Guys, this injury is really getting me down now, posted b4 - chronic shoulder impingement type symptons - 3yrs now, corts, anti inflams, physio, rehab, chiro, you name it I've tried it. Orthopedic consultant (uk), top shoulder specialist in country apparantly, says he'll artho scope the joint, only if he thinks the op would be favourable - this depends on the outcome of mri scan which I've recently had. NHS waiting times in the uk are apalling. I'm considering a shot or two of testosterone straight into the shoulder. had a shot in the butt in los b4, seemed to ease off the impingement - any experiences/ideas. - from those in the know????

DO NOT inject testosterone into the shoulder! O really anywhereelse for that matter unles it's recreational. Wait until you get your MRI and do the surgery.

Any idea of success rate for rotator cuff tears/impingement? NHS (national health service), waiting times are appalling at the moment, waited for gp to refer me to ortho - months, orth refered me to shoulder specialist - months, shoulder guy refered me for x- ray - weeks, back to specialist - months, x - ray didn't tell much of a story, refer for mri - many months, wait for results/see specialist - not happened yet, anticipated waiting time for surgery approx 9 months!!!!! I'm pulling my hair out!!! Anybody know how 2 jump the que? Is it worth travelling abroad for the op? If I take out an insurance policy, would it cover existing problems? thanx in advance.

No....Insurance companies go to great lengths to avoid paying for any treatment, If you have a pre-existing medical complaint it won't be covered, don't think by not declaring it you will fool them, they will make inquiries with your doctor etc.. before giving the authorisation to the hospital.

Do not inject anything into an inflamed/damaged area. You will make it worse.

Testosterone of any ester does not have any beneficial effects on injuries.

Have you tried Volterol. Very good for those type of injuries. Also are you doing any training?

Volterol? Is that an anti - inflam? I've got mixed messages about anti - inflams ranging from they'll burn holes in my stommach, even that they 'll kill me?? I'm never consistent enough with them to feel an effect, my gp says 5/6 weeks of continious intake to get an anti - inflamatory effect, although symptons of pain should improve from day 1. I can live with the pain - I don't just want to rid myself of symptons, I wanna fix the problem. Gp prescribes Diclofenac, 75 mgs 2x day - slow release version, Chiropractor has got me on a rehab program 2x week, neck, rotator cuff ( internal, external), low back - I have a low back problem also. I have (had) a dedication to body building most my life, I haven't trained now since last August, a year, anyone fellow trainers reading this will know how cruel that is. Upper body pushing structure is obviously out of bounds, deadlifts and back work aggrivate the problem, leg press - crap machine in my local gym, squats? Body type/ leverages never been able to use the excercise w/out problems.. All the other movements have no use in my book. Sit ups, and brisk walking is what I've been reduced to. As mentioned in original post I took a shot or two of test a while ago, within days felt 95% however post treatment the impingement was as previlant as b4. Waiting mri results and for ortho's decision - 9 month waiting list for operation of this nature in the uk, plus however many months re- hab - I can't wait that long!! Anybody know Bumrungrads track record/competence with this kind of problem, thanx in advance ps. your take on anti - inflams, should I try them consistently?

Volterol is Diclofenac. 100mg per tablet is the norm.

One a day should be enough. Sometimes inflamation prevents tissue healing, so over a long period it will give you a better chance to heal. Take it on a full stomach to cushion it.

MRI will show exactly what the problem is. You can go from there.

The test may have made you feel better because you were retaining more water on it. Deca would be far better for the joints, it does have a lubricating quality. Make sure you know how to keep your balls in order though, with clomid and HCG. They will shrink to peanuts otherwise. Its ok though its not permanent, they will return eventually.

Just a word on operations. When I was 25 I injured my back doing rediculous leg work outs. MRI showed that I had 2 prolapsed discs. Anyhow, I stopped training and waited for my consulting surgeon to cantact me after he had seen the MRI's. It went on for months and he never got in touch.

I called him, and he said he never recieved the scans. He followed it up and called me in. Said something like "You have a whacking great clump of disc pressing on you spinal column, causing the pain. We are going to have to take it out"

Thing was, I had stopped training and been swimming for 7 month, and the problem had gone. He back pedelled and said that sometimes the disc can shrink back in and heal over. I didn't have surgery after all, and have been training since with no problems. Im 33 now.

So just remember it should be a last resort when you have to go under the knife.

Unfortunately you're injury is all to common and very difficult to treat. That is if you want to continue bbuilding.

Good luck anyway, take it easy and let us know what the MRI says. :o

Thanx 4 the advice medbox, I'm gonna start on the anti - inflams, give it a month or so and see how I feel. Ironically the request card for my mri got lost in the hospital system, they said they had a place for me back in may, a bit frustrating could have been diagnosed 3 months ago! Anyway, any ideas on re - hab? My understanding is that it should be within "pain free" limits, but in my case I seem to fluctuate between feeling slightly better, and feeling slightly worse! U think I should continue strengthening and stretching the r/cuff in addition to the med's? Some sports docs say rest it, others say re-hab, reguardless of pain. Yikes, a year outta the game and I'm already a shadow of my former self, my shirt size seems to drop every month!! :o

Whydont yo ugo and see a good Osteopath !! They can work wonders.....much better than chiropractors. One reason I say this is because they use an Wholistic approach......I feel that maybe your problem has roots somewhere other than your shoulder......everything you have done so far seems to be towards treating the symptoms. I guess Pepe will think I am a quack.

Don't take anti-inflams at all. They slow down the healing process. Prolotherapy is the best thing for your injury. I'm not sure if there is anyone in Thailand doing it.

However, there is a doctor in Malaysia doing prolotherapy and I can give you his name if you like. Just 1-3 treatments will fix this problem and it won't come back. Trust me.
