House Central Heating

Recommended Posts

any one here have central heating in their house or condo or whatever? Are central systems available in LOS? I'm freezing my tushy! space heaters just don't seem to be effective. Any member know of heating contractors that can install a central system including furnace, duct work, exhaust system(flue)? Or is this just a pipe(bad pun) dream.

Rather than central heating systems, can the compressors of ac units be converted into heat pumps, or are there heat pump units that can be installed similar to AC units.

dited to include heat pump query

I don't think there is the concept of gas central heating in Thailand. You would have to consider oil fired if you can still buy these systems and take on the delivery issues.

Top of the range AC's can heat as well as cool but I don't know much about this.

Carrier manufactures and sells in Thailand several units which Heat as well as Cool. If you visit a good independent Appliance shop with a large stock of air conditioners and look at several of the brochures (some have enough English to understand the units) you will find several brands that can solve your problem without "modifications" that would void your warranty. You can ask questions of Carrier at 02-751-4778. Toshiba and Carrier might be made at the same factories in Thailand.

My a/c's go up to 30 degrees, so I assume that if it's cooler than that they heat (never tried it though). I will try tonight and let you know. Even though it's a bit nippy in the evenings I find it hard to believe that central heating is necessary, the most I have had to do is turn off the a/c.

I know its colder up north, but I have spent some time in Chiang Rai recently and was never cold enough to want heating, jeans and a long sleeve shirt were more than adequate. Having said that I went back to the UK in Oct for the first time in 18 months, and have never been as cold in my life, so I guess we are acclimatised to the warmer weather after living here for a while.

I can empathise I am here in the UK now, heating at maximum.

Another thought - If you are in the mountains etc is storage heating (a UK term perhaps) an option - basically you are down to electricity options.

You will need an AC equipped with a heater for that to work. You will not find any heat coming out of a "normal" AC.

I can assure you that however nippy you may feel, i'm bloody freezing in the morning and if i am not going out in the morning my shower is delayed until the temperature in my bathroom has increased a little. When we lived in the village we would light a fire outside to warm up, but that's not too practicable now i have a "real" house.
