Have you considered purchasing on line?

http://www.pentaxwebstore.com/index.asp?.

I have considered it Astral. Unfortunately the company in that link does not appear to ship outside the US. The Pentax dealers I've found on line to date either do not ship internationally or have Thailand on their "Black List". If I can find an on line dealer in Thailand then I would be happy to go that way.

You might want to ask Pentax distributor in Thailand in the link below.

I also recall a Pentax shop in Sofitel Central Plaza hotel in Ladprao (next to Central Ladprao) where I saw they sell Pentax medium format camera and its lenses but I don't remember if I've seen any Pentax SLR lenses other than for medium format (that was before the release of Pentax's first dSLR). Sofitel Central Plaza is part of the Central group company and so is the Central marketing group, so I think they are affiliated. I don't know if the shop is still there but it was in the 2nd floor of the hotel very near the parking lot where they share the same parking lot with Central Ladprao.

There's a very good camera shop (Digital Life I think) on the 3rd or maybe "M" floor at Pantip Plaza who sell a large range of Pentax lenses. Sorry I am unable to provide phone details but maybe someone is going through one day and could take a look for you.

Good luck

I've searched the net in vain. Does anyone know where Pentax lenses are available in Thailand; in particular the DA 50 - 200mm zoom?

Not a direct answer but.... I am using a Sigma 70-300 (1:4-5.6) DL Macro Super that I bought for my Pentax film camera with my Pentax K10D with good results. Auto focus, auto exposure works as advertised. So you might find a suitable substitute at a bargain price by looking at film lenses, specially a used one.

Re buying on line from the UK and importing. How much would the import tax be on top of the 7% VAT? The last thing I had mailed in cost only US $20 but I was taxed 15% plus VAT. I might want some more camera gear but try the mail/FedEx/shipping route if the tax is high.

I already own a 75-205mm Hoya zoom lense (for film camera) but it's getting a little long in the tooth and it is not auto focus. I'm not really impressed with the results either.

I've finally found an online store which will, so they say, deliver to Thailand.

They appear to have an extensive stock of cameras and accessories at what look to be reasonable prices.

If anyone is interested, it's here:

Just an update on Microglobe:

The item was said to be in stock.

"We will ship products that are in stock within 2 days of receiving your order."

Order placed 20th December 2007; order still "pending" 31st December 2007. It may only be a "Christmas delay".

Another update:

I emailed Microglobe early in January and they replied that the lense was not actually in stock. They confirmed that they would dispatch the item on 25th (no month mentioned).

On 24th January, I received an email stating that my card was not acceptable (Kasikorn e-card).

I re-ordered the item using my Visa Electron (also issued by Kasikorn) but that was also refused.

I've since asked my daughter in the UK to order it on her card and I'll reimburse her.

I may get it in time for my next birthday.
