Well after nearly 4 years I have managed to scrape together 5,000 posts , most of them rubbish, but this also co-incides with visiting Chiang Mai for the fisrt time five years ago today and meeting my Wife 5 years ago on Friday.

So 5 is my lucky number this week. :D

When I first arrived here I must admit I did not like it much, I was so enthralled with the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and thought CM was too slow, little did I know that as my Son drove me to Hang Dong to do a bit of wood carving shopping for my home back in the UK that we would pass within 100 meters of where my future house would be built. Ironially also I brought a carving that went back to the UK and is now back on my wall in CM :D

I stayed at the Porn Ping the 2 nights I was here, and had Christma Dinner at The Good View, although it wasn't a proper English Xmas dinner it was OK.

Oh yeah..and I went to Spotlight (dragged there by my Son who had been to CM before) He said I had to see the sights :o

So five years on ...I have lived here 3 and a half years, have a life, made some VERY GOOD freinds, (too numerous to name but you know who you are) all bar one I have met through TV, the irony is that in a million years I could never imagine settling in CM just 18 months later when I already had my own business in the UK.

But ..I love it here, I looked at other places to settle, but I found that CM had everything I wanted after I came back looked, looked and looked again I fell for it.

My one gripe is that I don't think the medical facilties here are as good as BK, I nearly died at the hands of incompetant surgeons ..but everything else is pretty much OK

One of the best decisions I ever made...sure its not perfet, but then what is, but it will do me.

I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a very prosperous New Year

Let's see.. 43+ months, 5000 posts.. That adds up to some 115 posts/month - don't you ever shut up?

I love you brother but there are more 5's that you may have forgotten - such as the total sum of toes you have on both feet, the year in school that you successfully completed, the number of games your favorite football team has won in the last five years, on the Something Awful Forums a five is the highest honor and praise that a thread or poster may be bestowed, and your old buddy Dustoff was born under the fifth astrological sign of the Zodiac..

Just thought I would mention it whilst wishing you and your lovely wife all the best that life has to offer.

No, really... :o

(Did you know that 5 is the only prime number that ends in 5...?)

Congratulations TP and wish you many more posts and a further future happy life in Chiang Mai !

I have always enjoyed your posts. Keep it up. And, Happy New Year!

TP - congratulations on the 5,000th post. Hope you and Tip had a great Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year.

Strange how this place gets to you, as soon as I arrived I knew I had connected to Chiang Mai in some way and kept coming back regularly until I finally settled. I can't see myself moving elsewhere and certainly not back to the West. In any place, town, or country there are some limitations and CM has a few that make life "interesting" but all in all it is a great place to live.

Hope to catch up with you at Blinky Bill's Big Bash tonight

Gidday TP

I have followed some of your posts with interest as they were quite informative. I must say that you have had your fair share of "challenges", but with your grit and action, you have over come them.

well done mate. :o

Glad you settled down well in Chiang Mai.

Congrats on your 5,000 posts.

A great contribution to others on Thai Visa.

Merry Christmas.

How could I not add a reply to this thread !!

I just went back to your old posts and found a fairly typical sociable, caring & understanding contribution from you by way of this thread from 2004

"This bloke joined the forum on 30th June, has anyone noted how many posts he has made, already an advanced memeber, at the rate he's going he will be a super member by Monday!!

An to be frank the posts I have seen are really boring, including his jokes "

Now if I am not much mistaken, were you setting yourself up on purpose there ? :o

Love you

Ally

Too funny, ain't it?

As newbies we wonder why anyone would seek recognition for sheer numbers of posts, many of them meaningless drivel.

"Uh-huh";

"Me too";

"Huh?";

"Don't know what you are talking about but just had to respond";

"I know it is off-topic but did you hear about...?"

Then we grow older and seek recognition for whatever gifts of wisdom we provide , even if mere drivel.

Crowboy has agreed to tutor me on accomplishing 250+ posts/mo so that I may become a super, umm, computer nerd with no other life...? :D

At least TP, unlike me, has somthing to say...

Humor, humor, folks! I love the old rascal as well...

No worries about those subjects. I don't eat beef, ox, or buffalo, I'll only drink good Guiness in S'pore or Songkla (believe it or not), and there's not a place on this side of the lake that comes anywhere close to a good New York pizza besides, my missus has been buggin' me about a diet. :o
