My contractor kicked in the septic system for free & I found out he was building an old style dump it in & pump it out type holding tank.(cement ring type)

He had his crew dig 4 feet down(120 centimeters) & ran into steely kind of rock- a real bitch to cut with a grinder & chisel out.

I got another worker to dig one more foot down & he thru in the towel.

I am digging a 21 meter drainage field 18" wide by 3' down as most drainage fields are required. The hole now is 5 ft deep & almost 3' wide allowing (5) 80 centimeter rings. Will this be an adequate system . This figures out to a 426 liter setup instead of the 600 for 2 people. The only way to dig it down further is a claw & getting a worker interested in enlarging the hole to accept a 3' ring opposed to the 80 cm. ring that will fit is getting next to nil. I would give it a whorl to enlarge it but the drainage field is giving me enough exercise!I was also thinking of running an auxilary line from the bathroom sink-kitchen sink & shower into the leech field to give the septic system less gray water to have to work through. Is this overkill or not a bad thought? The rate of fall for the toilet to septic & gray water lines is 1&1/2 ft (46 centimeters)

Please forgive my usage of feet & metric as I am still learning the metric system.

I think I am starting to dread retirement........ I have not worked as hard since I was 18 years old.

Any help would be appreciated as I really want to get it right the first time!!!!!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

Got it all worked out. It will work fine since it has a leech field-& is not a closed system it will actually service 3-4 people without any more digging(accept for finishing the leech field. :D

Hmmm it might. From your description it sounds like the dump it and pump it, with the addition of an overflow into a leach field. Is that correct? Nothing more than that?

If so, the scum that forms in your tank will just flow into your leach field and block it. A proper septic system is baffled to prevent this.

There are other efficiency issues with such a setup, but that is the first one to think about. Unless its more sophisticated than it sounds to be.

It will have baffles to make it flow properly. Have designed it off of the dos Canadian plastic septic system. Without might still work but why take a chance. I guess I flubbed up & didn't add in that detail.

Appreciate the response.... never hurts to double check!
