I just thought I would jump on the gravy train like so many Aussie expat pensioners.  Many of whom post on this thread.

 

You know, the ones that sign the declaration that they are returning home to Australia for good, only to leave a day after pension portability is achieved.  

 

As for the ATO catching me out.  Good luck with that.  The money is given to me in baht, in cash, in Thailand, by a non Thai tax resident.

Exactly the reason why the proposed changes t tax residency were proposed in the first place.

 

Income from Australia is income from Australia, and that includes pensions.

Immigration doesn't have to know. 

 

All immigration has do is inform other relevant government agencies, who need to be informed of such information, so they can take action.

Your business entirely however I wonder if you might give the guys in Thailand the toll free number as above and suggest they call:

Calls to this number go direct to the CLink International office in Hobart. They don't bite. As with all gov't agencies nowadays all calls are recorded so it pays to be careful what you reveal.

Should your share portfolio boom, I gather you will get nothing.   Meanwhile, people who have never worked a day in their life get the full pension.

You have lost the supplements. It's a bigger proportion than someone on a full pension, because it is a fixed amount, not a ratio as in the part pension.

 

When you are overseas, you lose exactly the same as anyone else.
