Do you pay 100-200 baht to police if stopped and carry copy import paper?

any info much appreciated

It is illegal to ride a bike with no reg. You'll be lucky if you only have to pay 100-200bht,even carrying the import paper. In some areas you're likely to have bike impounded till you pay lots or produce reg.

Stay away from bikes without a green book matching the bike.

he might get away with it in pattaya for a little while as the boys in brown here are hungry so a regular small fine may happen but eventually it will be impounded and in the rest of thailand problems sure.

you might be able to say you applied for green book for a start but your import papers will say how long its been here!!!!!

stupid question, but do you need a motorcycle lisence to drive an unregistered motorcycle?? or will that just mean another 200baht when stopped?
In a word, yes. Even if you are wearing a helmet, you need a registered bike, proof of insurance, proof that you paid last year's registration tax, and a driver's license for a motorcycle. Not having one or more of the above just gives Officer Turdsak choices about how to extract 1,000 baht instead of 200, or impound the bike, jail the farang, etc.

I'm not the most perfectly law-obedient farang in northern Thailand, but it's reassuring to zoom down the canal road at 130 kph knowing my registration, insurance, license, helmet, etc., are all compliant with Thai law. So I slow down to 80 kph and pass my neighborly police box without fear. They see me ride past many times every day, and never stop me, even in the occasional roadblocks. Yes, it's only a 150, but it's legal.

MMM interesting.

I brought my 1970 triumph in from Malaysia back in 99 and have been riding it ever since here in Phuket with Ca plates.

Anther friend of min rides a Harley also with CA plates.

i have been stoped a few times and they wanted to know where it was from and if i would sell it. Did get one cop thta worte me up for expired plates of all things (300 Baht)

OF course they can take it but most cops are not that bad here if they see ya and know u live here.

LEGALLY you can bring a bike in for up to 90 days and then it needs to leave and u can come right back in.

Loads of bikers here in Phuket do that

Even if u have insurance it is third party and covers very little.
