Ping
I was down Chalong yesterday and took some snaps of the Circle. It is now just a bare, raised island. I'll post one of the snaps in the next few days. Keekiat (sp?) today.

I will be there both nites, will be back fror Loy Krathong, but know by then, you will be back in Melbs. Been booked since March, as you know, actually getting there at last. Radiation seems to have done a good job, PSA down from 12.2 to 0.27. Lot more time before real results show.

Old Croc
Not sure what I'm more excited about - the turning on of the lights at the circle or the arrival in Chalong of the sheepshagger! huggybear
Patton was prety kick-a*s, you had to love him, Eisenhower a tough but got sort of weak once in office. Bonaparte, can't knock what he got done, Rommel, you don't get named the desert fox for being a dummy. Grant, geez can you believe such a drunk ended up as president.........considering Bush got elected I guess a "yes" fits in there. De Gaulle practically ended up a dictator no? Sharon, an Israeli General (?), there is a joke in there somewhere, MacArthur gotta love a guy that buys into a brewery, his spoils, free beer for life! Wellington
On a serious note re world financial crisis Following the problems in the sub-prime lending market in America and the run on Northern Rock in the UK, uncertainty has now hit Japan. In the last 7 days, Origami Bank has folded, Sumo Bank has gone belly up and Bonsai Bank announced plans to cut some of its branches. Yesterday, it was announced that Karaoke Bank is up for sale and will likely go for a song, while today shares in Kamikaze Bank were suspended after they nose-dived. While Samurai Bank is soldiering on following sharp cutbacks, Ninja Bank is reported to have taken a hit, but they remain in the black. Furthermore, 500 staff at Karate Bank got the chop and analysts report that there is something fishy going on at Sushi Bank where it is feared that staff may get a raw deal. Zpete
Hope you're not flying JetStar. OC, neva have anything to do with Qantas, so Jetstar in same bag. Miserable shytes begrudge ya an extra beer or 3 on LONG trips, seems as if crew has to supply.......LOL Maybe Qantas runs a bonus scheme, wots over, take half home. But then, who would want to take Australian weazels home...... hehe Met Ping and his lady the day I arrived, a very convivial time was had. Big party at "Come On Bar" that nite, pity Ping had to leave. He mentioned trubls accessing the web with the card he is using. I will be back in Chalong a few days before Loy Krathon. In Manila at the mo' wif me lil PH gal. How are all yer implants etc behaving? Be great to see ya there sometime on Phuket. Take care, OC. Old Croc
I never travel Qantas either Pete. Crap airline, too expensive out of Perth, and they haven't bothered doing international flights from here with Jetstar. (except recently started a Bali service) My reference to JS was in response to the soi Bangla thread. Good to see you're there now and enjoying yourself. I'm doing well with physio, can walk again without aids, and am planning a trip next winter. Enjoy. OC
Ping
Back a week now, but been laid-up with the flu (probably from the SIN-MEL leg). As Pete said, my wireless connection continually got weaker over time, until *POOF* - it was gone altogether. Funnily enough, when I got back to Oz, the ADSL connection to my house was also down - probably a problem at the exchange. Fixed after a few days. I'll be back in HKT early next year, hopefully permanently. So perhaps can catch-up with OC, et al, then...

Last night I booked a flight to Phuket for next year (June). Airasia has a sale going at the moment (no fuel surcharge) . Possible to get a fare from Per-Pkt for about $A500! (via KL) I paid a total of about $A800 to upgrade to the big seats up front! Edited November 13, 2008 by Old Croc

Yeah, had a flyer online regarding fuel surcharge, Air Asia is not wunnaful as far as bells and whistles go, I will have used them 6 times in the last 4 weeks. OC, ..... KL_LCCT has free WiFi internet. Ya may not have a long stopover, I had 7 hours and 3 hours, time passed fast. Hint, go into airside, grab a powerpoint and gofrfit.......plug is a wierd 3 large pins. I have a universal plug that goes most anywheres on the planet, 20 bucks OZ ruffly at newsagents in KL. If you are an 'oldie', you get free priority boarding with Air Asia. Ping
Manila? Went there with one of my ex's once (en route to Puerto Galera). Awful place. Never again. It could easily be a sister city with Pattaya. Each to their own, I s'pose. I'm still trying to sort out some business so that I can make my permanent move to Phuket, but things are hastening slowly...
Zpete
Agreed, Ping, Manila is about woist city where I have stayed. Even me filipino gal does NOT like it. Taxi driver have a death wish. I could never stay there unless really necessary. Manila is rated cheapest city for expats, not for this one.
