I was corresponding with a good friend yesterday and he mentioned he will be back at the end of March for the Cricket 6's - I thought they were staring in a week or so?

Can someone in the know please submit the dates and details.

For those of you who don't know, the game is a variation of Cricket with the rules modified to allow for lack of talent. Each team nominates a category from "good enough to beat England" ie crap but not totally, down to "we've never played the game and are just here for the beer". The team has 6 people in any combination of the three available genders. Each person must bat, field and bowl - usually not all at the same time.

This is a major annual event for Chiang Mai and a lot of fun for all participants. Drinking is not mandatory but strongly encouraged. The focus of the event is to have fun but there are some serious contenders out there in the higher categories.

This years Chiang Mai Sixes starts on Sunday March 30th until April 5th. For me it is the best week of the year - lots of people in town looking to spend money on having a good time and some decent cricket. This year I will again be leading the Stuffed Beavers to glorious defeat :o

Not all of the cricket is of the appalling quality the Beavers serve up. Last year there were some excellent teams from around the world and the final between teams from Bangladesh and England was of the highest quality. Sixes cricket is fast and furious and will appeal to people not familiar with the game and the social side of the tournament is second to none.

Come on down. :D

2008 will mark the 21st year of the event. Great fun for both players and spectators. Thoroughly recommended.

This is the 2007 program cover. Can anyone guess who the "Cover Boy" is? :o If anyone can guess where the ball was in this picture I will buy you a carton of Beer Lao.

Mike Gatting (former UK International) is bottom left.

The photo is of our very own giant koala - Mr Blinky Bill in wild batting form

Hmmm the ball is probably inside on either side of the cricket box.

Ok second guess is there was no ball the shot was staged

This is an authentic action shot Crowie, definately not staged. The team colors belonged to the UN Irish team aka Gang-Green.

I was rather surprised to see it on the cover of the program but obviously the editor of the program recognises true talent.

When you found out who was on the cover how many copies did you decide to stash away for future "when I was young..." stories to tell the Grandkids?
