Hi everyone. I am supposed to depart Thailand when my non 'O' expires on 12 March. But I fell sick with chicken pox and the doctor said I need to be in quarantine for 10-12 days. I am concerned that I might not recover before my visa expires. Is it possible to request extension from the immigration dept? In any case, the airline will also not allow me onto the flight if I am not fully recovered from chicken pox. Thanks!

You should be able to receive a 7 day extension with a photo and 1,900 baht without much problem. Take your outbound ticket/medical certificate with you.

All will appreciate it if you obtain the letter from your doctor and send someone else to immigration with your passport and perhaps a note of authorization for this person to get you an extension until the doctor releases you. Perhaps, if he puts the release date in the letter they will give you a few days after that to depart. My guess is your authorization note is not required but play it safe and issue one.

Some of the hospitals in BKK (ie IBumrungrad and Bangkok Hosp. at least) will take care of medical visa extensions for you. I think there was a small fee plus normal immig. visa fees and it was handled by the "concierge at Bkk Hosp.

That way, you would not have to run around to arrange it and infect the whole city.

Many thanks everybody! I will obtain the medical letter and send someone to the Immigration on my behalf.

Download the TM.7 form and fill it out (from pinned items at top of forum) and attach a 4x6cm photo as that will be required for the extension of stay.

I checked records and the small fee I mentioned above was for the poloroid photos the hosp. took. Taking the paperwork and photos to Immig. and getting the visa was a free service that the hosp. provided for my friend who was an in-patient at Bkk Hosp.

My condolences ..on your chicken pox. I had it many years ago and it was hel_l. My wife had it about 2 years ago. One of the worst things is the itching...
