Marriage

Recommended Posts

I am a UK man who has recently got married and was wondering what sort of benifits I can gain from this (appart from sleeping with the same women all the time :o not saying thats a benifit I must add). I am going home soon for work purposes, but am not sure what happens with visas and work permits on my return. Who do I need to contact? And where? If anyone could help it would be much appreciated, am also thinking of opening a little shop somewhere, not sure what. Is this complicated?........

Is this complicated?........

marriage is complicated, however the visa isn't

assuming you married a thai woman, you can apply for a non immigrant O visa. in the UK you can take care of this by mail and have your passport sent back to you.

if you would like to stay longer than 90 days in thailand, then you can apply for a one year extension from thai immigration

you can work while having a non immigrant O visa or the extension with a work permit here in thailand. indo siam & sunbelt can give you the skinny on what is required in starting a business and obtaining a work permit.

This might be a stupid question but, could I get away with placing 40,000ish in the bank withdrawing it after afew days then replacing it each month?

Proof of income will need to be certified by your embassy.

If you are thinking this way, what do you plan to live on?

Thailand is cheaper than the UK, but wives can be expensive - anywhere!!

As to benefit of marriage question you can apply for and receive a non immigrant visa class O. There is no support requirement for this type of visa.

You say going home for work purpose so not sure why you are asking about work permits here. If you plan to work here you will need a work permit and it can be obtained on the O visa but other than that the marriage does not help you much. You have to find a job providing a work permit (marriage gives you no right to a permit). A little reading here will probably answer all your potential questions.

You are expected, as the male, to move to your home country and support your wife so doing otherwise is not going to earn you any points unless you can prove that it is impossible for her to leave Thailand. If you move here with no support you will be on visa runs.

But we continue to advise you on basis you have married a Thai but you have, for some reason, not confirmed this.

Sorry havent been to clear. I have married a Thai, and am thinking of opening a shop in thailand nothing fancy but enough to support the wife and unborn. This was why i was wondering about the WP and visas on my return....

You might want to review posts by Sunbelt and Indo-Siam as they both post a lot of good information about working here.
