Hi all,

Ive been looking through the forum, but cant find any info specifically to my query, or its just me being pants. :o

I have a thai lass ive known for 6mths or so and i'd like to be the sponsor for a trip to the UK for a month or two on holiday, to see how we get on over here, visit my friends/family etc.

Im heading back to see her in may, and im wondering if i can jack up her visa application when im there.

Weve been in constant contact, i have the odd piccy/phone bills/emails/evidence of support etc.

Now my main problem is as far as i can see is that im currently in receipt of public funds, im a "carer" for a disabled kid, council house, DLA, carers allowance, IS the full works etc.

My approx disposable income is after bills+food paid, £700-800/mth.

Currently have approx £1500 sat in the bank as well.

I'll obviously be fully supporting her trip, but ive found with most things official over here in the UK..being a "carer" is the tag of doom.

"dont ask...dont get" is my usual approach, but whats the chances of success? if any?

And is there any advice anyone can give?

Paul,

at the bottom of the Threads there is a search function, just type in, 'Visit Visa', you will get a host of other threads, you will be better searching through there.

Good Luck

The emphasis on visit visas is not so much what contact you have had and whether you can support her, but more around whether she will go back to Thailand. You have to provide evidence that she will not overstay in the UK, usually a job, close family, property ownership are reasons to return. You will have to say how she will be funded while in the UK and where she will stay, but you won't have to provide all the info that you would with a settlement visa.

Paul,

There's no reason in principle why your girlfriend should not apply for a visa. It doesn't matter if you are in receipt of benefits providing that you won't have to claim additional public funds in order to pay for the trip.

Obviously, how you choose to present the application is your call and dependent upon your circumstances, but I would think about getting confirmation that you are a carer and of the disabled child's condition and presenting this with the usual evidence to the embassy. Have a search of the forum for the general principles attached to visit visa applications.

Scouse.

Update,

Just got back from my latest trip today, bringing my gf with me.

visa application went through first time, no problem, still not sure how we got it as my friend had his gf's turned down at the same time, but my supporting tome of evidence and paperwork i bunged in with her form at the application centre in BKK seemed to do the job.

cheers for all the advice gents, i one happy bunny atm :o

thanks

length of contact was approx 16mths and 3trips (I missed the "1" in first post, i just noticed)

she has no house/land or job atm, spent the last 3mths looking after her family, I just explained her situation in the additional info part of the application form and that she would be looking for work on her return to thailand after her visit to the UK.

good luck.
