Will be riding down to an international Bike rally in September and will need a schengen visa for my Thai wife. I read that we need to approach the embassy for which we will spend the greatest duration or enter first. We will spend 4 nights in Italy, 3 nights in France, 1 night in Switzerland and travel through Belgium. My guess is the French embassy would be the best it get the schengen visa from as we enter France first. Does anybody know the cost. Would it be higher as we will be in and out of a few countries or is it a flat charge with access to all the member states?. I have seen a web site that handles everything for you and charges a fee for each country visited. But i thought one size fits all. Experience has taught me to prepare the visa myself so I am looking for any pointers in the right direction from any memeber who have been touring through Europe before.

Any ideas appreciated. Cheers.

You just need the one Schengen visa and it should be issued free of charge. Providing that you have a Schengen visa which will be valid for the duration of your proposed stay in Switzerland, no additional visa is required for CH.

:o:D:D Free.............. after what I have being used to paying into the Embasy in BKK can u please call 999 and get someone to come round and pick me up off the floor.

But seroiusly I did read that being a spouse of an EU member then no fees. But I kind of thought although as members of the EU who didnt sign up to the Schengen agreement them we would be expected to pay.

But if any one would know it would be the Scouse.

The Schengen agreement is ONE BIG travelling area without immigrantion borders inside. In fact nobody really cares where you enter and where you leave, or stay. As long as you are not coming on the expenses of the Schengen countries.

So: have a return ticket, a MEDICAL CARE /TRAVELLING INSURANCE, and money to stay there, and it will be a "Hammerpiece".

These things: do yourself. Fill in form at whateer embassy, have sufficient pass photo's with you ( I believe 2 ), and that's it.

Only when they are suspicious ( young sexy lady, only Thai speakking, no means of existance, boy friend 25 years older in weard clothes), the embassy might ask more securities.

My Thai business partner, lady of 43 y and proof of own condo with her + MED INSURANCE, gets a Schengen visa just as easy as a domestic air ticket to .. Phuket. Entering at Amsterdam, go to Paris, then to Germany, and arrives on the departure date in Amsterdam again.

I think you will need to get the Visa from the Italian Embassy not the french. This is because, as far as I know, duration of stay takes precedence over country of entry. Also, you say you need to make sure you have your return ticket. You might be asked (Probably will be asked) to show where you will be staying (Hotel Provisional Bookings etc.) so its wise to take these with you. Visa is free for your wife if you are a EU national

His Schengen visa should be multi entry to be able to enter Switzerland without a Swiss visa.

Visas (where needed) should be issued free of charge to family members of other EEA nationals. However, some embassies do appear to require people to ring premium numbers in order to book an appointment, and they undoubtedly make money from that.
