Thailand confirms first sub-continental SAMBO championship

2008-04-23 01:15:00

As part of ASF efforts to gain recognition with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the eventual inclusion of SAMBO into the Asian Games, the First Open SEA (South East Asian) SAMBO Championship will be held on 13-14 July 2008 in Bangkok (Thailand).

More than 15 countries from SEA and the Asian regions are expected to be represented in this championship, which will feature Sport SAMBO (Men/Women) and Combat SAMBO (Men Open category).

The championship is expecting to draw leading social, diplomatic and business personalities and will be covered by the mass media.

ASF will provide 10 SAMBO coaches and referees for this championship and as part of its development plan, these experienced master Instructors will be assigned to the various SEA countries for 1 – 3 months to train and supervise local SAMBO coaches and sportsmen.

SAMBO Federation of Thailand President, Hassabodin Rojanachiva, graciously agreed to host this historic event during a recent meeting with the ASF Delegation in Bangkok, comprising FIAS and ASF First Vice President, Fazliddin Pulatov, ASF Secretary General, Gerard Lim and Councilor to FIAS President and Vice President on International Relations, Saeed Akhmedjanov

To increase SAMBO knowledge, Fazliddin Pulatov also conducted a workshop for local sportsmen and presented 10 sets of SAMBO uniforms.

ASF extends its gratitude to Hassabodin Rojanachiva for his personal efforts in developing SAMBO in Asia.
