Best Gps Mapping Gadget For Bangkok?

Featured Replies

I think I know my way around North/Central Bangkok pretty well, and those shortcut signs are great (I can read Thai enough to follow them). But there are times when I head down a soi and get completely lost, and it happened last night. We seemed to be driving for about 10 minutes lost down some back soi's in Latprao, only to come out almost exactly where I started from! So I though to myself, if I had a GPS, this would not happen to me. So my question is, what is the best (and preferably cheapest/cost effective) GPS for getting round Bangkok (including those soi's)?

well, i use Igo, and my experience is that if you know your destination, then it works fine...if not, it can be really difficult the address entry 'cos the thai soi/subsoi system.

I only have this one, cant compare to other.

At least it is as cost effective as it can get, with some internet download involved for the software part :o

For selection of maps globally you cant beat the Garmin series.. They are not the cheapest but they have so much more maps available for them.

I see se-ed books (online sore) are selling a WinCE GPS solution with Thai maps for 6900 baht.. Thats a cheap package.

Also dont forget that many of the newer phones have a GPS solution and even if the built in maps are a bit basic you can upgrade with the garmin XT mobile package and run the garmin maps.

I bought a Garmin Streetpilot c330 refurbished and the esri thailand map.. total cost from usa was 8,000 baht. Used it last week during a trip to Khon Kaen. It worked very well, and I was amazed how many little shops, restaurants etc were listed to choose from.

Well worth the investment!
