I'm an oatmeal lover, but this is a new one. What is "steel cut" oatmeal? Are there other ways to cut it?

Good question but always knew that "steel cut" was the best. I went on the McCann's site and it had the answer!

I looked at my current bag and apparently, I've been eating steel-cut, but didn't know why. Very enlightening. Thanks! :o

Yea steel cut is the best. Mix it with some dates, flax, dried lychees and cranberries. Fill with water and zap it for three minutes and then pour some vanilla soy milk on it....and its a great way to start the day!

Carnation makes powdered milk for children (comes in a 1/2 kilo blue bag), and it's GREAT on oatmeal. Quite sweet. I often like to add cinnamon powder and a fresh cut-up mango. YUM

By the way, the only disadvantage with steel-cut oats is the long cooking time vs. rolled oats. McCann's recommends 30 minutes which is sort of an inconvenience in the morning. However, there is a great solution at hand: the rice cooker. I put 0.5 cups of oats in our Zojurushi rice cooker with 1.5 cups water, set the timer for 7:00 AM, and it's ready when I wake up. East truly meets West.
