I saw two people complain that their watches(200 to 300 Baht) didnt work.

They were ignored.

This applies to the small stall just behind that pretzel place.

Beware.

"Behind the pretzel place" It's hardly the Cartier shop on Bond Street is it?!

There used to a reliable watch shop in the Wat Chai Mon Kol market ,he would fit new batteries ,change straps etc and still be reasonable for price ,although slightly higher than the price you quoted.

The ones sold by the touts are much better - have a couple that still ticking after 4yrs and only 100bht. However you want quality buy from a proper store, and stop whinging. :o

It depends on what you buy.

I bought a Pasnew watch (made in China) there 18 months ago and it's still going strong and I swim with it on.

The trick is to avoid copy watches and stick with genuine brands. There's nothing wrong with genuine Chinese brands.

What's wrong with strapping a sun dial to your wrist? Certainly a lot cheaper.

......and just in case some smart ass is going to say that they don't work at night...they do. You just need to stand under a street light....preferably drunk. :o

Good grief what a rip off all that money down the drain. I shall certainly give this shop a wide berth whilst shopping for Christmas presents. :o

I get people who insist that I give them a complete refund on books that they "did not like". :o

I bought my genuine copy Rolex about 3 years ago in Chiang Mai. It was fine for about a year but then started to lose time and became inaccurate. It finally stopped and now it is correct twice a day as long as the local time is 3:27.

Where are you from?

You may need to run a course on colloquial language? By that I mean doing a course, not running with one.

The stall which I think that you are referring to is on ther ground floor behind Auntie Annes and seems to do good business. Out of interest there is a sign on the stall which states No Returns.

Yes that's the one.

Sure I don't expect much from watches that cheap. Some I have bought have lasted but never more than a few months.

But some people might have illusions that this is a "real deal" and that was the point of the post.

When you have THAT much evident dissatisfaction something is more rotten than usual.

Anyway it's good to see peope posting posting posting in these forums again!

What were you buying? If you buy a copy watch, you should expect problems.

They have plenty of cheap branded Chinese watches. The models are even on Chinese web sites and are the real deal.

My 600 baht Pasnew has been going strong for almost 2 years and I even swim with it.

Ah yes!......

"the Chinese watch....Yes sir the Chinese watch ....be ready at 2 o'clock, sir...................This is a high class joint with continental cooking ...and cuisine and that.....and not a cheap clip-joint for picking up tarts.....that's right out!" - MP - "Doug & Dinsdale Piranha", circa 1970

A friend bought a "Cartier" ladies' watch a few years ago at Jomtien Beach. Battery powered.

After one year the watch stopped and my friend took the watch to a regular watch shop in her home country.

The guy in the shop replaced the battery; FREE: "That's normal service here with these expensive watches!"

Either a perfect copy or a very blond guy in the shop.

I bought a nice looking watch at the jj market a few months ago. It had stopped by the time I had walked to the exit. It is a very large market, but I'm sure this must be a record.

No, I didn't take it back to the stall. I would have been too embarrassed to ask for my 150 baht. :o
