Hi there,

Just got the wood furniture back from the "wood Shop" who was supposed to fix it and darken it slightly but what i got is Black Furniture.....any way to make this lighter ?

You could chop the legs off, that should make it considerably lighter :o Sorry couldn't resist

On a more serious note, you could always apply a white water based emulsion and then a colour stain of your choice on top of that. Done it several times before after a tradesman told me it was a trick of the trade, it works really well.

If the dark stain was applied to the wood prior to finish coat, post #2 would be the way to go. If it is a dark finish put on over a wood which was sealed prior, you can remove the dark finish by sanding or using a liquid stripper and then use the finish you want.

Hi. Strip the wood finish with paint remover. Wash the paint remover from the wood. Let dry. Enclose the wood, chair, table whatever inside airtight plastic with an open pan of ammonia. Wait until you have the desired shade of stain. Remove. Air the wood. Coat with a quality clear poly such a Beger or TOA. Allahumdelala... :o
