Hiv Treatment

Featured Replies

Can anyone shed any light on what is the normal procedure for HIV treatment for a Thai national (with no medical insurance) in Thailand?

Is it covered under their 30baht medical visit system..?

Thanks

What i seen on Television they send them to some place to die alone I could be wrong. :o

I also hear that many of those working in the sex trade that contract the virus either commit suicide or continue to work in order to pay for the expensive medication themselves. Scary thought.

Chulalongkorn Hospital would be the place to go in Bangkok. About 1000 Baht a month.

Keeping in mind that Thailand is the land of announcements, I have read that the government is trying to raise the number of people getting their one pill a day antiviral drug from 40k to 100k by next year.

The medication is supplied through the state hospitals on the 30 baht scheme.

On the other hand, I have read that the drug is not available unless a Thai is willing to pay the hospital about 1200 Baht a month.

There is some talk that the time to take the drug is being changed from the previous 200 C-4 count to 300.

yes and no , they get a discount of sorts , AZT & DDI combination medication is around 5000 per month , thats what a thai i know pays .

been on it for 5 years and health is pretty good.

imported other medicins are more expensive .

you dont need to start medication until CD4 count warrants it

A few years ago I asked one of my wife's friends, a pharmacist in BKK, what the deal was for Thais with AIDS. He said they could get combo therapy treatment for 40baht a day - which comes out to around 1200 baht per month which aint too bad.

I don't remember if this was AZT or a combo drug treatment though. Don't know if Farangs living in Thailand would be eligible for this treatment either - this could draw in farangs with AIDS to Thailand for low price treatment (don't think entry is restricted for HIV+ people).
